Spot on!

But what about the “last man tackle…” Red? Personally, I feel that if the ref deems it a genuine challenge it shouldn’t be a red. But then you’ll get the opposition mobbing the ref, demanding a red. And that’s where the refs have to be stronger. Captains should be allowed to ask for clarification and that’s all. Any mobbing, first player get a yellow, second players gets a red.
Last man tackle should still be a red, otherwise defenders can potentially get away with an low probability tackle when the opposition have a great chance to score. If you are last man, that is when you should be careful. And hopefully your team play in a way to avoid that happening.

Obviously, if in the box it isn't a red anyway

Reports say he's been playing with a stress fracture in his foot. So a bit of both I guess.
I can imagine if Haaland was dropped, it would make huge news. Pep would have to continually respond to questions.

So, potentially very convenient he is "injured". Obviously a complete conspiracy, but if I ever thought of dropping Haaland due to form, an injury with an unspecified return date (could be one match, could be more) would be the perfect made up excuse.

So we just let abuse continue, the deliberate take out happen? Trial it and see.

Other sports have embraced it, football is always so terrified of change.

The refs already have the powers to deal with these situations, they just choose not to use them. If they get a swarm of angry players surrounding them and yelling at them, get the yellow card out and book every single player that is around them. If any of them have already been booked then send them off. It's no good introducing new rules if the refs aren't using the ones already in place. We saw at the start of the season when they introduced the new rules about kicking the ball away or waving an imaginary card to try to get a player booked that the refs used the rules for about two weeks and then it all stopped and things went back to the way they were. If they want to cut out the deliberate take out of a player change it from a yellow card to a red card for a tackle that has no intention of getting the ball.

Man Utd rumour mill working overtime this morning with Zidane being spoken about as the next in line.

ETH has made some awful mistakes , whoever is next needs to be a motivator as we need to get off the merry-go -round at some point. The players have to enjoy the game. There’s so much anger, panick and lack of class in the team right now. I enjoyed watching Villa yesterday and the squad seems so together. Same with Liverpool as much as it pains me to say it.

We’re going to win nothing now so I’d give ETH till the end of the season….. Martinez, AWB and shaw have all been out for most of the season and people forget we had one of the best defences last year ….DDG even won the golden glove !!!

But letting DDG leave was one of ETHs worst mistakes. Loyal servant, loved the club and wanted to sign a contract on reduced wages, yet he let him go. That, plus having the flop signings haven’t improved the situation.

I do ultimately blame the players and their attitudes. I’ve never seen such a contrast in sublime to the ridiculous as we have under ETH, therefore , it respective of who the manager is, that tells me there’s bad eggs in the squad and that needs fixing.
In regards to De Gea, he was on nearly £400,000 a week, and believe he refused a reduced contract. As he continued to not come to an agreement with the Club, they had to look for alternatives. They went for a keeper who ended up being 2nd GK on the overall World Player of Year list. He can't have been that abysmal. Then, after season ended De Gea then realised club wouldn't bow down to his demands and decided to go for the lower offer. Too late by that point, club had decided to go in a different direction. If true, I'm not comfortable criticising club of ETH simply because Onana has has a tricky start. Perhaps he'd have been better with a consistent back 4, and in particular Martinez who is both good on ball, and seems a real leader and motivator at back.

When I hear of Utd players not turning up on time to training by ex players, Sancho getting suspended, Greenwood arrested and sent on his way, Rashford giving up on pitch, etc. then it makes me feel there is barely one character in that squad with a winning mentality. Perhaps put in a good performance when the pressure is on after a bad game, then after getting a bit of praise downing tools for next game, thinking they've now found winning form and don't need to run when opposition have ball.

I like Zidane, but have zero faith he could come in and sort out the way the team defends. At best there might be a mini boost for a few months. Then we'll lose a game or 2 and the players will feel sorry for themselves and we'll be right back to where we are now.

I do think Onana will come good. Prem is far faster paced than other leagues and it takes a lot of keepers that come in a season or so to come good.

De Gea himself took a while, but he was immense for a number of years afterwards.

You also make a great point about your defence. Honestly don’t think a single one makes the villa starting 11 which is a bit embarrassing for a United team. Best player there is Shaw, don’t think he needs replacing but the other 3 positions do.

Edit - where is Martinez actually? He’s decent!

Lengthy injury sadly

He originally suffered a metatarsal injury last season and it seems he was rushed back, because he suffered a recurrence which required surgery. He never looked happy in the half dozen games he played at the start of this season. I doubt we’ll see him much before February.

Wow. Pretty awful 2 footed challenge by Luton player on Foden, VAR is impotent I'm getting involved.

Maybe they'd have asked for it to be reviewed of Foden stayed down injured. Lucky he didn't get badly hurt

not sure the pace of play affects goal keepers

Back to The Bigg Market to continue The Fox Trot for Lord T!
I'm starting to get delirious with all of this winning malarkey o_O. Another cracking win today against Chelsea. It would have been easy to drop off after Thursday but that's another strong showing.

On the flip side, Chelsea 🤭🤭

It's going to need a good team talk from Howe at half time. The Newcastle midfield is getting run ragged here, they are off the pace.
All that money and still not enough players. And a manager who won’t substitute off injured players because he has no plan B.

They have 10 players out injured, what would your workforce look like if you had 10 off sick long term 😂😂
Did you read my first line? It seems not.

And why are you comparing apples and oranges? Football is a profession where teams literally hire excess workers to cover for eventualities like this.
