More than soft. Appalling. Those Everton supporters are onto something you know....
Yeah they were soft, but both bookable offences. I'd be criticising the player not the referee, you can't bring a player down if you're already on a yellow and then complain if you get another.
If he hadn't already been on a yellow, you can guarantee the commentators would've been saying how clever he was for taking one for the team by bringing Elliot down, and preventing an attack.

Anyway..Libpool top o' the league, Libpool, Libpool top o' the league!

You should be allowed to make a genuine, safe attempt to make a tackle, and not fear a yellow if the attacker ends up being a bit too quick for you.

If not, best sub every defensive player on a yellow. No point on them being on the pitch if they can't make a tackle

The Havertz goal ruled out for handball highlights the pathetic handball rule.

The footage shows it accidentally hits both his and Matty Cash's hand in the incident. It even hits Cash's first. All accidental of course.

The rules award handball against Arsenal and goal ruled out. But they don't award handball against Villa and give Arsenal a penalty.

And had Havertz been able to pass ball to a team mate instead of shoot, no handball a goal.

And, I'm happy to give Bouremouth a 4-0 win for having a late goal ruled out for same thing.

On a side note how well have they got havertz playing? I know a sensible Chelsea fan (they excited) and he always was philosophical about his signing. Young player, foreign league and country at the height of COVID. Lodging in a hotel away from friends and family. Hardly a recipe for settling in smoothly

Rice is their clear choice for signing of season but I don't think havertz is far behind

Not sure which game I watched yesterday, but a player did stop the quick free kick by deliberately standing in front. Player deliberately kicked it to get the other booked. Ref just restarted the free kick and ignored the gamesmanship or whatever it’s called. VVD did the same and it never hit Ayew so he never interfered. Again where is the consistency.
I thought the second, again he tried to make a tackle.
Interesting to hear Linekar say he is not a lover of VAR last night.

Man Utd rumour mill working overtime this morning with Zidane being spoken about as the next in line.

ETH has made some awful mistakes , whoever is next needs to be a motivator as we need to get off the merry-go -round at some point. The players have to enjoy the game. There’s so much anger, panick and lack of class in the team right now. I enjoyed watching Villa yesterday and the squad seems so together. Same with Liverpool as much as it pains me to say it.

We’re going to win nothing now so I’d give ETH till the end of the season….. Martinez, AWB and shaw have all been out for most of the season and people forget we had one of the best defences last year ….DDG even won the golden glove !!!

But letting DDG leave was one of ETHs worst mistakes. Loyal servant, loved the club and wanted to sign a contract on reduced wages, yet he let him go. That, plus having the flop signings haven’t improved the situation.

I do ultimately blame the players and their attitudes. I’ve never seen such a contrast in sublime to the ridiculous as we have under ETH, therefore , it respective of who the manager is, that tells me there’s bad eggs in the squad and that needs fixing.

I did mention the other day that I thought ZZ could be the man to sort it out. As my lad said the other day, if Utd don’t sort it out soon, they will do a Liverpool and go 30 years without a title. ZZ could be the last chance saloon coz if he don’t sort it, The Utd job could be a poison chalice.

The frustrating thing for me is that United seemed to have found an identity last season under ETH, and were even on the fringes of the title race for a very brief period. I remarked here a few times that the players were again playing with a smile on their faces, and everyone seemed to be pulling in the same direction.

A few short months later we are in as big a mess as we have been at any time since Ferguson retired. The biggest concern of all is that we seem to have absolutely no identifiable style of play. None. Yesterday against Bournemouth we were breathtakingly open, with a trio of midfielders all of whom have absolutely no pace. I don’t know who was responsible for scouting Amrabat but having a good World Cup in no way means a player will have what it takes to be successful in the frenetically paced Premier League. He is leaden legged, and surely ETH can see that playing him alongside Fernandes and McTominay is a recipe for disaster.

Hojlund is great at holding the ball up, as strong as an ox and quick, but he is getting absolutely no service where it matters. Antony creates absolutely nothing for those around him, and with the exception of Fernandes there is currently no creativity at all behind a young player who is effectively playing as a lone striker. A team tally of 18 league goals tells its own story.

To hear the manager now saying that the players are not good enough to be consistent is deeply worrying. Many of these players are his players, not ones he inherited, so he is effectively saying that he is blowing the budget on average signings. I’ve said it times, but £85m for Antony is disgraceful business, and whoever signed off that deal should be sacked.

Much as it pains me to say it, but after a far more spirited performance midweek against an albeit distinctly average Chelsea side, yesterday was the most enormous backward step yet. Such defeats, and performances, sadly no longer come as any surprise.

As recently as last week I remained firmly in the ETH camp. Given his post match comments yesterday I am now nowhere near as convinced that he can turn this around.

Are they really??

The Everton board admitted to breaking FFP rules and they've been punished accordingly but no, poor little Everton have been hard done by.

Lets be honest the standard of refereeing has been rubbish for every team this season.

Re Utd I watched them yesterday for a long time, it was painful. When I watch City, I see them press for the Ball, they want it Re style of play allows it being compact. Watching Utd, quite frankly it was boring football to watch. With the exception of Garnacho I wouldn’t want one Utd player in Citys squad. What exactly is Utds style of play. They were so easy to play against. I honestly don’t know how that is going to get sorted out. Apparently Utd are interested in Phillips 😳 he is struggling to get into Citys squad never mind team. How can Utd compete with City buying players that are not good enough for Citys starting 11. Ask any City fan, it was the same when Arsenal bought Jesus and Zinchenko. Love um to bits but they were squad players.
Utd have Major problems with owners, Staduim, manager and the club. But it’s the fans suffering.
Talking of manager and players, TH manager of the month and Maguire, player of the month. Not gonna give my thoughts coz Billy will give me an infraction.
Meanwhile Villa silently going about business 😉👍

Unfortunately that’s the way it’s going.

Arsenal game that happened.
As well as identical “ foul” on Jesus that got Palace a pen.!

Spot on!

But what about the “last man tackle…” Red? Personally, I feel that if the ref deems it a genuine challenge it shouldn’t be a red. But then you’ll get the opposition mobbing the ref, demanding a red. And that’s where the refs have to be stronger. Captains should be allowed to ask for clarification and that’s all. Any mobbing, first player get a yellow, second players gets a red.

That situation, all described in your post, is ideal for the sin bin proposal. Old pro's are finding the idea mind blowing but it really could transform the game for the better.

Or it could just lead to the team with a player in the sin bin putting ten men behind the ball and defending for the 10 minutes their player is in the bin making for a very dull watch.

So we just let abuse continue, the deliberate take out happen? Trial it and see.

Other sports have embraced it, football is always so terrified of change.
