So why sign a player to play him out of position?
Or is it just whilst someone comes back from injury?
Ah. My “reasons previously discussed” - he was the first player signed this summer. Before we sold 2 no6s in Hendo and Fabinho. It seems fairly certain at least selling Fabinho wasn’t in our plans but an offer came along we couldn’t refuse.

Endo was signed as a 6. But clearly he isn’t up to scratch yet. Whether he will get to the level remains to be seen. So Mac Allister is the next best option. Thiago may well get fit enough to play as the 6, who knows. Either way, he’s there until there’s a better option. It might be January, it might be the summer.

It is poor squad planning from 2 seasons ago showing. We did well in the summer bringing in the players we did. But last summer and the summer before were not handled well.

I’m not sure I disagree with you on this.

But the other side of it is he’s a fabulous footballer being played out of position for reasons previously discussed.

If you put Rodri (as the best no6 in the league, if not the world atm) in his position and him alongside Szoboszlai rather than Jones I think you’d see a vastly improved player, playing in his proper position.
THF if you put Rodri in any PL team he would make it better.

Inconsistency is always annoying but if Dunk has given the ref abuse, and kept going, then he has no one to blame but himself. He has put himself in that position. If he keeps his mouth shut the ref does nothing.
I was at the game. I think one card was for the penalty he conceded and the other was for calling Taylor a “bald bell” (will leave you to complete the last part 😅) Fair play, he’s not wrong, probably the most worthwhile red card of all time.

Both sets of fans were chanting that Taylor is “rubbish” every week. He’s not the reason Forest lost today but he is definitely not fit to be reffing in the Premier League. Awful today, lost all control.

Not a word on MOTD about any decisions by Taylor.
If he’s our number one ref we’re in trouble.!

Seen a news report about Ian Wright and Arsenal FC.
They were helping prisoners to get their coaching badges For when they are released.
Always liked Wrighty but he’s gone up a notch in my estimation.
So well done him and Arsenal.

However bad your day is:

Plymouth 2-0 Sunderland. 800 mile round trip for Sunderland fans

Bolton 7-0 Exeter. 500 mile round trip for Exeter fans.

I hope the pies were decent at least. Give them some joy today 😄

Proper fans! Just seen my team win away from home for the first time in over a year so feel the pain of those long distance defeats 👏👍

Watched motd this morning. Who was more stupid, Dunk for Brighton or James for Chelsea?

Dunk just seemed to be abuse x 2, simple as that. Brainless.

When James was named captain I did raise an eyebrow

He always seems either injured or getting sent off

But then again our captain kicks cats so

This is why enforcing dissent punishment to try and improve respect to referees is probably futile. Comments and reactions by fans such as this.

They are all for improving respect as long as the decision doesn't go against their team. But if it does go against them, all cards off the table, ramp up the abuse and moaning.

The penalty decisions were just those difficult ones to make. Sometimes they are given, sometimes not. If they are given, referees are slammed for giving a soft penalty. If not, then the other side abuse them for missing a clear foul.

Personally, I think both penalties were soft. But will the laws ever be written to make things like this definitive? Would it even be possible? Probably not.

Re the Dunk red card, saw close up footage of it on Twitter and one of the other Brighton players asked the ref why he’d shown a red card and he replied “He’s just called me a f****** b***end”.

Absolutely that’s a red card from me. Absolutely would like to see more players get red cards for abusing referees. I’ve said it since the days of Rooney, Keane, Neville et al at Man Utd surrounding the referee and shouting “**** OFF” in his face on the rare occasions a decision went against them. But the trouble is, as others have pointed out, there is no consistency with it.

I’m not making excuses for poor refereeing. I was at the Forest game yesterday and he totally lost control of the game, both sets of fans thought he was awful. But from Grassroots football and upwards, it’s no wonder we have a shortage of referees in this country.

And it's attitudes such as this that means referees will never get respect in the game.

Get what you’re saying about fans only getting angry when decisions go against their team. But the biggest issues that cause anger to fans comes from around consistency, or lack of it. Agree it’s never gonna be possible to be totally consistent across many games involving many teams and many referees. But when you get inconsistency from the same ref in the same game, there is grounds to question it.

Both penalties in the Forest game were soft. Both were very similar. Yet one (for Brighton) was given by the ref and confirmed with a VAR check. The other one wasn’t, the game played on for a couple of mins and then the game was stopped, you had the usual wait for a long check and then the onfield chaos ensued.

Either give both or give neither. Expecting a PL ref to be of that minimum standard isn’t too much (in my opinion)

The BBC aren't going to make anything of the refs decision, they are too scared to cause any sort of controversy. The ref was as Dunk said , absolutely bloody useless. No wonder RDZ said that 80 percent of refs are not fit to lace a pair of boots let alone be in charge of a multi million pound league game

.......................... and what would his solution to the problem be, or didn't he come up with one?

When you listen to a manager talk about decisions after a game, they largely just embarrass themselves. Manager A is entirely biased regarding decisions relating to his team, Manager B is the same. Same game, completely different views on the same incidents.

But the refs are the ones at fault.........

Refs don't get everything right but blimey, managers and players are by far the bigger problem in all of this.

Went to watch young Bradley Tash last week, the ref pulled up a 10 yr old kid who was giving him some lip Re a decision, And told him in a polite way to shut up. He did coz the manager subbed him at half time. He did go back on later in the second half. At the end of the game I went up and told the ref it was good refereeing. He mentioned they have been told to tell the kids to button it.

Was with family last night who have no interest in football.
I managed to catch the last 10mins of the game when it was 2-1.
I didn't see much wrong with what Dunk did but obviously if he did mouth those words to the ref then he has to go.
Typical MOTD and Lineker though, hardly spoke about it.
Shearer was full of praise for Brighton though.

For years, Tash, I found the attitude of some coaches and their lads to referees in junior football absolutely beyond belief. The players clearly watch MOTD on a Saturday night and, fully supported by their coaches and parents, they mimic that behaviour on a Sunday morning.

It’s long, long overdue that local FA’s dealt with the clubs guilty of these antics.

This, and James and Dunk proved that yesterday. The problem is that now referees have a “ layer of protection” in the form of VAR. Fans expect more correct decisions, and ultimately it’s seems to be worse. Referees seem scared to make decisions. Re referees, some decisions are subjective still. Like the City second goal yesterday. For me Akanji put his arm on Allison and the ref blew for a foul. For me and most City fans it was the right decision, Akanjis actions meant the ref had to make a decision. Yet this Morning Keith Hackett says the goal should have stood. So after the ref blew, VAR must of had a look. A decision was made. Yet still a referee disagrees. 😳
