No I meant proper goals, like that season when he was your top scorer.

Let's not be bragging about goals against Lincoln and someone that might be an anagram of a real team. 😆

The season before we started pushing him into the defensive role to keep rice happy as he wanted to be prime gerrard? Even arsenal fans I speak to say he's so much better just holding (like he does for England) souceks form dropped off a cliff when asked to stay back

As I said a few times rice leaving wouldn't break us. As great a player as he is we are a better all round team without him

So now you have this Alvarez guy holding, is that right? I've not watched any games so I'm not sure, but it doesn't strike me as JWP's best position either.

That's correct, Alvarez is a pure holding midfielder and has just basically sat there in the main.
Freeing up JWP and soucek to play their games

Soucek hasn't played all our games either he missed one through injury plus was taken off in a match at half time for a head injury I believe (why he missed next game)

Also JWP on corners is a weapon, we used to shoehorn a past it cresswell into the team for his corners .. even playing him as CB in a back 3 just to get him in. Emerson far better

We try and play paquata through middle with Alvarez and JWP behind

However against the bigger teams it's paquata on left as he works well with Emerson (Lyon days) with soucek pushed into the middle to toughen up the midfield

Agreed. Obviously there was some confusion over whether he awarded a foul or offside - but ultimately it amounts to the same thing. It would be very soft as a foul, but given that there was some contact with his hand on the goalies chest, and the fact he was in an offside position, I think you need to disallow it. They should have just made it clear it was for offside.

Why did that player put his hand on the keeper? Silly boy - if he doesn't do that, it's a goal.
I guess that is just one of those things that is easy to realise in hindsight. However, when you are one person in amongst a group of other people, it is quite a natural instinct to raise your hands to try and create space around you. He may even had no intent to actually make contact with the keeper, but it just happened as he moved closer to him. He also may have had no idea he was offside. It was a tight call, especially considering the free kick was already so close to the goal line.

Well the line up looks interesting tonight
Given a chance to the fringe players

Bowen and Watkins starts will be interesting to see what they offer

Less said about the captain the better

This is probably the best squad we’ve had since 98 & we’ve got a muppet in charge that makes Jordan-Clap-lot-hoof-alot Henderson Captain 🤦‍♂️
Even Henderson knows he’s ready for retirement, that’s why he took the Saudi money, fair play to him for that.

Think this is a good reason why playing a load of fringe players in friendlies is absolutely pointless. They'll never all play together in competition, so there is no need to find out how they play together. Bringing one or 2 in to play with mainly regulars would probably be much better.

Such a dire 1st half. But, if certain players have been poor, it doesn't mean they can't perform for England. And if they play well (against the might Oz), it doesn't mean they are future England stars. Learn more about them anyway from their regular PL games.

The only advantage for tonight is key players are saved from potential injury. And a few guys will get a cap, something that will be few and far between for some of them.

This is dire. I've seen some poor England performances but this is as bad as any. Slow, uninspiring, turgid. Epitomised by Grealish who is an utter waste of space on the park and does nothing but turn back inside slowing play up every time he gets the ball.

You'ld have thought that some of the players who are being given a chance tonight might impart a bit of vigour and vim to the pace of the game but no, none of them have done so. Bowen looked like he might in the early part of the game but he too has caught this English malaise of lethargy when pulling on a white shirt.

Needs a stick of dynamite up each and everyone of them's collective backsides. Golden generation my arse. Sort it out Southgate.

Grealish needs a new giro ,one that keeps him on his feet.

The very last sentence is the problem imo.
Play a few fringe players but not a whole team.
The Aussies were the only ones happy with this England side.
