At last....sudden switch of the ball by TAA with no delay causes a problem and a goal....if they cant learn from that moment of "speed of thought" then they don't deserve to be on the pitch.

Yes very good from Watkins where a CF should be.
Grealish looked like he was robbed but it was missing imo.

I dunno what you guys expect sometimes.
It was a friendly, a chance to see what the fringe players can do.
How often and how long does GS have to look at certain players - not much.

Also Australia are a good strong side, very fit and well organised.
Not to mention the England v Australia rivalry, always going to be competitive, even in just a friendly.

Looking forward to the Tuesday qualifier.

You do know he started with a 33yr old that plays in the Saudi League as his captain don’t you? 😬

What does anyone learn about any of those players, that you don't learn by watching them play in the PL week in, week out against some of the best sides in the world?

What did we learn about Watkins, TAA, Gallagher, etc?

International football is different to the premier league. It's about the players gelling together and balancing the team. That's not something he can do week in and week out.

Trent can’t be played in a role where he’s expected to defend, not sure how Southgate fits him into his starting 11?

That depends who you are playing.!
If we had a manager that goes out to win TAA would play imo.
But we havnt ! We have one who sets up not to lose so I agree.

Surely the talent we have we should be on the front foot in every game we play !

Gelling players together that will never play together? I'd get your point if he slipped in 2 or 3 players in amongst 8-9 regulars, to see how they fit in with guys you know will play.

But who cares how the back 4 plus keeper will work as a unit, as they will clearly never need to work as a unit. I can't see what you learn from having Bowen, Watkins and Gallagher in there, especially as the jury is out whether Maddison or even Henderson will be regulars down the line.

Sure, Watkins scored a goal and that will be nice for him. But we know he can do that. It would be more useful to see how he'd gel with a largely 1st choice England side behind him, so you could see how he'd work if Kane was ever injured. Or if Kane was up front and likes of Bellingham behind him, if they tested Bowen on the right to see how he gels with those guys. But to have him play with pretty much random players next to him, I'd have learnt nothing more than if they chose to play Soccer Aid

I think he learnt a lot last night, that's what friendlies are all about.
Whatever and whoever he played last night will never be right in yours and other folks eyes.

As I mentioned last night, Australia were no pushovers and very well organised. A side that defensively will not concede many goals.

Us armchair fans can give our opinion re England and Southgate and it is quite varied on a golf forum.

However if you put your hand in your pocket pay out a large wad of cash, travel a fair old distance and get soaking wet whilst paying over the top for food and drinks. You are more than entitled to your opinion whether you give a standing ovation or boo and tell them it’s rammel. I think the match going fans let there thoughts be known re Henderson. And probably England.

Last nights game reminded me of a Prem team playing in the first qualifying round of the Carabao cup. full of players who will not be in a starting 11 the following Saturday. Players trying to prove they can cut the mustard, players playing to a system. That last sentence sums it up. What exactly is the system. The goal came from a div 3 ball lumped into the box. I still think the players are carrying Southgate and the football is dire to watch. Anyone who thinks watching England is entertaining also likes to watch Crossroads and Neighbours on catch up TV.
