Same with stones tho? Hardly plays as a CB for city

At least he plays.

How can Maguire possibly be match fit and sharp if he warms the bench week in, week out? It’s a nonsense, and that Giroud goal really showed how off the pace he was - I’m not sure any true world class centre half gets beaten to a near post header in quite the same manner.

I was thinking more of Maguire’s awfully weak defending for the Giroud header. It’s all very well Maguire performing in games England are expected to win, but when it came to the crunch on the biggest stage he wasn’t up to it.

Given his lack of game time at United I think most would agree he’s a very lucky fella to still be getting a pick for England.
Agree with you on this. While I think he will do well for West Ham, there are still plenty of better English centre backs around. As you say, 95% of games England play will be easier opposition than Premier League opponents so of course he looked fine in those.

I'm sure once he moves away from the cesspit that is playing for man united and being under the microscope for every single miss placed pass he will shine like he did for Leicester

I mean during the OGS reign Maguire received the second most abusive messages on twitter (9000) only Ronaldo (12000) got more

“The cesspit that is playing for Man United”?

He has been found out, time and again, because of the system United play. It’s been said many times by people far more knowledgeable than any of us here.

If the system at the “cesspit” involved defending the edge of United’s own eighteen yard box, Maguire would look a totally different player.

It’s horse for courses. And he is clearly running at the wrong one.

Are you saying your fans didn't get used to years of success and turned the club a bit toxic?

Moyes comes in, hounded out
Maigure booed by his own fans
Fans demanding success

How many managers tried and not delivered because the club just wants to run before it can walk again

Least now you seem to have a manager who's brave enough to accept it will take time

I don’t disagree with a lot of what you say. But is there really any need to refer to the club as a “cesspit” in order to make your point?

It rather undermines your stance by making it sound more like an angry rant than a valid comment.

Ok point taken

How about I think away from the pressures and negativity that surrounds man united over the past decade he will flourish in a system that suits him better?

At West Ham where the fans spend most of the season wanting Moyes to leave because of the style of football isn’t good enough ?

If it was bad at United ( where inside the ground they aren’t that bad towards the players ) then the boo’s of the West Ham’s won’t go down well

Cesspit ???? Nothing like a good old derogatory remark to decend a thread.

Fwiw 3 generations of my family have been going to the "cesspit" but at least we don't rent it from the council and have to sit miles from the pitch.

Maguire is a good old fashioned centre back. If your looking for someone to roll up their sleeves, play with passion, play for the shirt, head it away and boot it into the stands there's few better. He'll be an asset to West Ham.

I think the highlights reel highlights his failings - slow and clumsy. He's a trier for sure and very professional BUT that doesn't make him a good centre back. For me he's neither Premiership or International standard - clearly those in the know see it differently.
It’s really not his fault,he certainly try’s,he’s just not very good.
He should just be happy that UTD have paid him so much money 🤷‍♂️

😂😂
And his best days are behind him,he was awful last season.
I met up with my cousin yesterday, Liverpool season ticket holder. He said himself when we were chatting that VVD is not the player he was. Him being under par and TAA at right back was a major issue defensively for Liverpool last year, not rocket science.

If he doesn't pick up this season, he doesn't expect him to, he reckons he will be shipped out next summer.

The short sighted nature of football fans who put him alongside the like of Terry, Ferdinand, Campbell et al as one of the best CBs in the PL era is really showing now.

Why did Maguire fail at Utd? Clearly the system requires a more mobile, footballing player. But is that the only reason? Who played alongside him, and were they good enough? Personally, I think they’ve been more comfortable with the ball at their feet than Maguire but I haven’t seen one for years that has been good enough for what I expect a Utd player to be. Add in De Gea behind him who also looked fragile, and De Gea could say it was those in front of him that made him look ordinary - did they make themselves available for a ball played out from the back?

In the England team he’s had far better players around him and although he’s not going to blow you away, he’s at least looked reasonable. A decent international team may well expose his frailties but, equally, his strengths come into their own for crosses & corners.

VVD didn’t have the best of seasons just gone. He looked vulnerable and very ordinary. But who did he have alongside him? Sometimes, just like with Maguire, it’s the players around them that make them looked poor.

Talent and ability wise , he is up there with the best the Prem has seen . A rolls Royce of a CB who suffered a bad knee injury that affected his pace a little

Very true but at the top level did it for a couple of years with most of his career in lesser teams. The players I mentioned did it at the highest level for years. He’s not in the conversation because of his injury.

Is a west ham fan really criticising a fan base for booing their own players, having a hostel home environment and having delusions of grandeur?
