The issue with the handball yesterday is that no ref in the world could make that call.
You literally need VAR to see it.
You literally need VAR to see it.
I don’t like VAR but we are stuck with it,But then VAR doesn’t want to undermine the Refs authority so we just end up with rubbish refereeing.
After seeing two stonewall penalties against Brentford turned down and their opening goal being awarded even though it looked like a blatant foul on the defender I’m looking forward to a few seasons without it!![]()
They may well go a different way it doesn’t mean that yesterday was wrong though. The clear and obvious has been thrown out a long time ago , we have seen enough examples now of VAR spending ages looking at something to change the decision when it’s not been clear and obvious
Refs will always now officiate a game with VAR on their mind knowing they don’t need to make the tough call because VAR is there
The Fernandes tackle we have seen them as a red 9/10 in the prem , studs on the ankle no contact on the ball , ref sent to screen and showed 20 replies all slowed down
The issue isn’t the individual incidents - it’s the lack of consistency across the matches when VAR is used , next game imo those two incidents happen they go the other way
I hope we go full strength today, beat Chelsea then still beat Villa on Thursday. Would be hilarious after that ‘performance’ yesterday.Villa, consciously or not, prioritised Thursday over today. Can't blame them, it's a balancing act with a squad that isn't quite big enough.
Fair play to spurs though, they still had to put them away.
Good point, but I think at times it’s more about the fans reactions to these decisions as Phil said. They may well go a different way it doesn’t mean that yesterday was wrong though.
VAR was brought in under the guise of for clear and obvious errors.
I feel it was used correctly yesterday.
I also feel that it hasn’t been used properly previously and won’t be in the future
Despite statistically VAR getting over 95% of the decisions correct?Another Monday, another VAR discussion. Personally I think it's a blight on the game. And only goal line technology should be available. The rest is up to the ref
The problem for me is they use it for decisions that are opinion.Despite statistically VAR getting over 95% of the decisions correct?
Far better than when we left it to the Officials.
It’ll never be perfect, but I’d rather they try and improve it than bin it.
Refs need help at the highest levels, the players are fitter, the game is faster and just by being stood half a yard left or right of his position can determine whether a Ref has a clear view from 10-50yds.The problem for me is they use it for decisions that are opinion.
The Fernandes one yesterday is a good example.
Some think it was a yellow some think it was a red.
Let the ref decide
If just used for factual decisions like offside then there should be no argument.
It’s not just a VAR discussion, this one. It’s as much to do with the handball laws.
Even in the event the VAR did have absolutely conclusive evidence that the ball brushed Sesko’s fingertips, and I agree it probably did, there is still no way on earth a handball law should be such that the goal is ruled out.
The touch in no way altered the outcome and that, for me, should be the point under discussion here. Not the involvement of the VAR.
Totally agree and we saw that clearly midweek in the Champions League. How we can be part of UEFA and have Officials making different decisions for the same incident is wrong. It’s not just a VAR discussion, this one. It’s as much to do with the handball laws.

Let's assume var doesn't exist. The ref gave the Sesko goal, they gave Bruno a yellow.
All that happened was that the decisions were not overturned.
I don't think there is anyone but Liverpool fans who think the goal shouldn't have stood.
There was nothing conclusive showing the ball touched his hand. That's why it stood.By the handball laws of the game the goal should have been disallowed
The handball rules are a mess
There was nothing conclusive showing the ball touched his hand. That's why it stood.
Time to move on![]()
Basically Paul, I'm fed up with VAR and the endless toing and froing it creates.Despite statistically VAR getting over 95% of the decisions correct?

They showed it repeatedly yesterday and nothing was conclusive. It may have brushed a fingernail, it may not. Nothing clear so the refs decision stands. How it should be.Yet plenty have said that they can see the evidence that the ball was touched- more than enough evidence to show the ball was touched
It’s not the first time and won’t be the last time VAR ref has got it wrong
