The pundits and managers, etc need to stop calling it dark arts and call it what it is - cheating. Same as when they refer to things like “ there was contact and he is entitled to go down”. Nobody likes being called out for cheating so they might start thinking twice about doing it.

I'm not sure. Do they lose any sleep when the internet is full of images of their cheating? Would Maguire be bothered he's been shown to be the latest cheat...

Not to mention the massive hypocrites, managers, players & fans.

I read a comment today from David Moyes, who had said something in relation to Arsenal and what he referred to as “dark arts” at set pieces. I confess I didn’t see the full context.

But I did think it rather odd he should make the reference given what his own players did for every corner against United last week. It’s the first time I’ve really noticed the extent of what now goes on and it was, frankly, ridiculous. At one corner Tarkowski was virtually lying back on the defender behind him. It was farcical.

It needs sorting.
It wasn’t odd when he was answering a direct question in the press conference after the Utd game and before the weekend fixtures, what he said was:

“You are now allowed lots of blocking, for example. In my day if you blocked someone it would have been a free-kick. But blocking has become a big part of it," the Everton boss said.

Let’s be fair, the best at it – but with style – would be Arsenal: good delivery, good style but ultimately there’s a lot of dark arts in it such as blocking the goalkeeper from the back or the front, blocking defenders and making it difficult for them to be your key headers of the ball.

“It is a big thing in football but I do think the level of refereeing has let that part of the game drop. And managers, if we see somebody else doing it and not getting punished for it, then we are all on it.”

It was said in another report, not related to this that Everton had believed Lammens was susceptible to corners and believe me Everton fans were just as frustrated as anyone else watching that game.

It’s also been reported in The Times that the Arsenal set piece coach is on a bonus for every goal they score from set pieces.

Players don’t care , managers don’t care and fans also use the “entitled to go down” - just look at the Cunha incident and reaction

When a team gets a corner, I think instead of giving themselves the best chance of scoring, they should ping it to the 18-yard box and get a striker to do a once in a lifetime overhead scissor kick.
The goalkeeper should stand over one side of the goal and make a fantastic flying diving effort to try and save it. This way the armchair supporters and Arne Slot might fall in love with football again.
Well, I'd be happy with somewhere between that extreme end of the scale, and the WWE Wrestling end of the scale :ROFLMAO:

I am of the opinion that it’s easier to score from a corner these days. Last weekend was a prime example with how many were scored. All the time you have defenders playing the man and not looking at the ball at all, it must be in the attacking team’s favour. Do I like this style, no I don’t. It’s it here to stay, yes I think it is. I am quite happy to vote with my feet and am never afraid to sack anything off

Arsenal find it easier

The standard at the top in the prem the past 2 seasons really has been poor imo.
I struggle to watch a full 90 mins.
Other than the odd YouTube clip I haven’t even watched any highlights this season; I’m just checking the results or listening to the odd half hour of radio commentary if I happen to be driving or cooking.
Dad always said that football was the closest thing our family had to a religion. Over the last few years I’ve started finding it so boring that I just can’t be arsed anymore.
I don’t even blame the refs or VAR. It’s the managers and the players.

Agreed,it’s just win by any means.
Constantly looking to con the ref.
Look at Maguire claiming he was kicked in the head.
Slot claiming his players don’t fake injury.
Embarrassing

Thanks for adding the context, Paul - I hadn’t seen that. I’d just seen the paraphrasing of the words “dark arts”, without the wider comments, hence my surprise.

With regard to Lammens, I will say I think Everton got that wrong, and by some distance. When watching the game, I did comment to my lad that it appeared Everton had forgotten that Onana had moved elsewhere. He would have been extremely vulnerable to those tactics, but Lammens has been pretty much unflappable under the high ball, so to see him being targeted in that way was mystifying.

I’d love to see Maguire shown this & talk us through it.
And this isn’t just aimed at slabhead.
Every player that does something so embarrassing.
What Maguire shouting twice for, twice he has tried to con the ref. Hopefully next year they will pull Maguire off for a head injury and leave him at the side of the pitch for a minute. Al bet Terry Butcher is wetting himself laughing watching that.

100% Lammens won that contest.

Weirdly against Burnley tonight we are attacking corners differently.🤷‍♂️
