They just failed to beat Grimsby...

I reckon 7 points, they should have enough to beat Burnley and Sunderland, and will probably get a point away at Brentford. City, Chelsea and Liverpool should all beat them comfortably.

So that would be 8 points after 8 games, relegation form.

Worth pointing out Arsenal didn't beat them comformatly - they will probably play better against the better sides if last season is anything to go by.

Re Sesko
Are you not worried that as a striker he is the last outfield player to step up and take a pen?
If he isn’t fit enough to take a pen he is going to be missing all season.
He shouldn’t need game time to take a pen, he’s a striker
I know very little about the guy, so I'm not yet going to create much drama in my head on whether he likes to take penalties. Theoretically, I like any striker who is like Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who demands to take penalties and is clinical in taking them. But my biggest concern with Sesko, or any other striker at Utd, is them scoring goals generally. With them being able to provide a strong outlet up front, causing defenders huge problems. But, if defenders, wing backs and deep midfielders are continually passing the ball backwards, and attacking midfielders constantly trying to score from outside the box, and refusing to cross a ball, then I can't see how any striker will do well at the club.

We are only in one cup competition now, so worrying about who takes penalties in shootouts is pretty much a non-concern. And as for penalties in games, I'm still happy enough that Bruno is a decent penalty taker (despite the weekend), and I'm sure there are others. So I only care about it being scored, rather than who takes it.

This is the root problem at the moment, we could have a front line of Harry Kane and Alan Shearer in their prime and we'd still struggle as there just isn't the service. I suspect we're just about to find out that Hojlund got a lot of pretty undeserved flak. I feel for him and really hope that if he does end up at Napoli (or wherever) he proves us wrong and that give time and support he'll be a decent player.

I think the problem with Bruno being the leader, he has everything on his shoulders. He seems to have the weight of the world on them. Like when he missed the penalty the other day, it was very UnBrunoesque of him to go off like he did. If someone comes in and bears some of that burden I think he could be even better.
Bruno Fernandes is not a leader

I've always said I liked Hojlund. During the first part of his Utd career, he had plenty of energy, was clinical when he did get chances, and was good at holding the ball, and bringing others into play. But, he was clinical with the 1 chance he got every 3 games. By the second part of last season, he just looked like he had finally given up with the complete lack of service. I think there is a very good chance that he does very very well when he plays at another club, with players who actually know what a centre forward is for.

It always seemed like a contradiction when stats are thrown out there that Bruno creates more chances than just about any other player in the Premier League, when our striker gets virtually zero chances. It must simply be because he plays every game, and any pass counts, even if it is a pass that is almost impossible to get on the end of or a pass to a winger who then needs to run through 8 players to have a poor shot at the end of it (if it even gets that far). To me, it is probably a stat that is as reliable as xG

Looks like West Ham might be splashing the cash around! £40M on Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandez, I’ve never heard of him but it amazes me how one of the worst teams in Prem history can command such sums for players that weren’t good enough for the league last year! Probably shows how desperate West Ham are. Rumours we are in for a few more before the window shuts! Exciting times. 😵‍💫

Earlier in the (calendar) year, Southampton were valuing him at £100m, so you've got a good deal there!

CL draw is due to start in minute....i wonder how much waffling and pre-amble will take place before the first name is drawn out of a hat? I'm piling in on 17 minutes 32 minutes...ok it was 31 minutes....about 25 minutes after it could have been!!

ooooh controversial...presenters have just said it is the greatest Club Competition in the world....FIFA wont like that!!!

plenty of empty seats in the auditorium...is it being held at Eastlands? or were they the seats allocated to the red half of Manchester?

christ...they're showing highlights of last years pre-amble!!!

some very confused faces in the audience during/after a nonsensical attempt at a comedic sketch as a pre-cursor to awarding Ibrahimovic The Presidents Award.

mmm... Newcastle get a home draw v Barca and an away game at PSG from the teams in Pot1

Didn’t you mention this lad ?

Seems a lot of money for someone that hasn’t done much

Think it’s standard these days
That applies to Sesko and Ekitike as well really. There has been big money spent this summer on striker potential. It will be interesting to see how they fare.

He was nailed on to go to Bayern earlier in the summer, not sure why that didn't happen.
Looks like Bayern didn’t like the price being quoted and got cold feet

I agree regarding Ekitike but Sesko has at least been on the radar for a couple of years. Be interesting to see how he gets on it’s been a big summer for strikers being signed based on potential.

OH WOW!!!! yes I did....banged them in for Germany during the U21 championship this summer....13 in 18 at U21 level, 12 in 28 for Stuttgart last season....exactly the young sort of player that Eddie Howe can help develop like he has helped Isak. A lot of money but hell....we've snuck that one under the radar if it happens!!!

Tall, powerful in the air, good on the floor....actually excited by this one.

Get Strand Larsen in or Wissa as Wilsons replacement, let Isak go and its been a great window in terms of actual squad strengthening....and if we bring in another defensive midfielder then it will have been a fantastic summer....despite all that has gone on.

Looks like it’s pretty much done

On his way for medical etc

Think it’s a very good signing and will prob start the ball rolling for Isak going now

Both Wissa and Larsen want to leave and go to Newcastle so will be down to how much they want to spend

It’s all very confusing

After last season and get no benefit from finishing 1st in the league i guess anywhere in top 8 will do
