Ward left mid term, what happened after that is solely on the Boards table. They, the board, agreed to a short term replacement in which Klopp brought his mate in who helped get the players Klopp wanted/needed. That transfer summer was a success.

These issues should've and could've been prevented with foresight from the board.

My personal view is the board thought " they'll sign regardless" and its backfired. Own it and learn from it.

I dont know why people are so bothered about TAA anyway, he's SO overrated and cant defend.
RM started working on him 2 years ago. There was nothing the club could have done to get him to sign a new contract.
No player is bigger than the club,
It’s funny how so many slated him for being a crap defender and liability at the back yet now saying he’s a big loss…:)

The biggest loss is financial. As with all clubs, you should never allow a player to get into the last 12 months of their contract. Once they knew he was not going to sign, you should have shipped him out. That's a big chunk of money you have missed out on. If you lose all 3 this summer, that would be a major financial cock up, not just a little one. You can cope, but even so..........

Fair few posts on Twitter today highlighting the fact that Matz Sels is leading the race for the PL Golden Glove with 12 clean sheets. And pointing out that since the award began in 2004/2005, no goalkeeper from outside the Protected Six has won it.

Hope he can do it. Would be a fantastic achievement. 💪💪💪

I think it’s a going to be a balancing act

With a player 12 months left you aren’t going to get their value so it’s a judgement call of using them for the 12 months and if that’s of more value to the club than the fee you get

In Liverpools case they seem to value the players input more than the money they will get

Mo and VVD are different cases for me - both want to stay , club wants them to stay , it’s just finding the middle ground in terms of length of contract

Started watching the start of this weeks episode of The Overlap: Stick to Football.

Was funny when Neville criticised Liverpool in allowing TAA's contract to wind down, and Carragher getting irate in trying to defend the club and giving excuses as to why it had happened. He basically tried to explain that there has been various turnover of staff at the club in those positions of decision making, and it all boils down to where they have ended up. Neville pointed out that even the tea lady and kit man could have decided that Liverpool should sort out the contracts of those 3 players.

It certainly felt that if Man City had let Haaland's contract run down, Chelsea Palmers' or Newcastle Isak's, Carragher would have been happy to criticise the clubs. But, in this case, he just didn't seem to be able to do such a thing.

He was outstanding in the game against us , some of his saves were stunning

And as you are 3rd - it will be a GK in the top 6 again

It’s always going to be someone in the top 6 anyway when they will prob have the best defensive records

Carra isn't the only one that can't take criticism of the team. I wonder though if he beleives what he was saying or was it acting the pantomine villain for the programme

If it was that simple then it would be done and dusted. In reality, they all went to stay as long as it is on their terms, Liverpool's and the players. Two very rich players want longer length contracts, one very rich club wants to give a shorter length contract. One of the parties could give, they all have enough money. It's business ultimately and if someone doesn't budge then they will leave, no matter 'how much they love the club'

Yes. Outside of the Protected Six, I’d have thought Kasper Schmeichal would have been in with a shout of it in Leicester’s title winning season, but Grok informs me he was second with 15 clean sheets to Petr Cech’s 16.

Not sure if that is the case in this situation, as I think he has defended the situation as vigorously on other media platforms.

However, more generally, I'm pretty sure that reasoning can be applied at other times. For example, I'm sure TalkSport basically ask their guest to formulate an argument that completely opposes Simon Jordan's view, so that they can set Jordan up to show us all how wonderful he is at arguing his point :ROFLMAO: . It wouldn't be much of a show if the guests agree with Jordan all the time after all.

Pickford has actually come close in previous seasons, he was second to Raya last season. We could not score goals but we could certainly keep them out .

It's a tricksy one really. Does it show a great keeper or a great defensive unit? It's the latter really. You can't be a useless keeper but if the guys in front are protecting you well, you don't have that much to do.

Hence why I think it will be about finding the middle ground

I also feel that both are sorted , Trent was the one everyone was waiting for and we will see both Mo and VVD extend for a couple of years

Imagine Carragher defending the club that he played for so long for - shock horror

But he is right the issues did boil down to changes in the football management above the manager and contracts got lost when we didn’t have a DoF and Klopp was given more responsibility

That’s where the club messed up and it was something he highlighted

But players leave clubs on frees even with DoF in place

All clubs have lost small or big players for nothing - it happens

Except when other clubs have lost big players you and others have blamed the players and/or the clubs. Can't see why this is different and if the club lose all 3 on a free then a big mistake. Irrespective of who had resonsibility eyes were taken off the ball in gettign these sorted

I didn't think I said I was shocked by Carragher's response? It is about what I expected.

However, Neville was simply criticizing the Club for getting themselves into that position, and Carragher was instantly wound up and got on the defensive.

P.S. It certainly feels like ex-Man Utd players are happy to be critical of the club they played for. Other ex-players of other clubs, I am sure, have been critical of their clubs. I just found it amusing that Carragher went on the extreme defensive, when I'm sure if the same had happened at another Club he'd be only too happy to be critical of the Club.

Neville when talking about United - blow hot and cold

Right now he is very silent on InEos and blames everything on the glazers

In the past he has been very silent on the Glazers and blamed others

How much smoke did they blow up OGS when he was in

They are all very selective when it comes to the criticism

Carragher has been critical of the owners of the club in the past

It’s part of their job - they will get the people talking

Both will be very passionate about their clubs and very defensive

It’s prob easier for Man Utd players like Neville and Co to be critical about the club when it’s a mess

Harder to find fault with clubs that are doing well
