I thought he left in good spirit tbf.

Just built a solid team that he left behind and gave them 10+ years of stability - moved on to the biggest job in football at the time
Nope! It came out later he lied.

Utd had spoken to him in the January and his contract was due for renewal, Everton had offered him a new contract.

He had made a statement that players should commit to the Club and sign new Contracts to save getting distracted, when questioned about his, he said he didn’t want to be distracted during the season snd would talk in the summer.

He then walked on a free, I’ve no issue with Utd, but, if he knew they were interested in him he could of said something or even signed a new contract, that way Everton would of been compensated.

Maybe if UTD had to pay compensation it would have affected his wages.

I really do not get that at all. You know you are going to leave the job in the summer, yet sign a contract to your current club so that they have to be compensated, and then you potentially will earn less yourself (or perhaps might even miss out on the job if Man Utd don't want to pay compensation). I'm not sure Moyes should have treated Everton like a charity case. He gave them solid commitment for over a decade, but I guess that is just not good enough for some?

If TAA has any desire to sign for Real Madrid, I can guarantee he won't sign a new Liverpool contract so that they get a big transfer fee out of it.

Not even sure what the compensation for a manager would be back in those days. But, had he signed a new contract and then walked away at the end of the season anyway, I'm positive that many fans would slate him for signing a contract and then having no commitment to honor it.

Moyes denied Utd were speaking to him, ie, he lied!

May 8th 2013 SAF announces he will retire at end of season.

May 9th 2013 David Moyes announced as new Utd manager and will take over 01 Jul, Everton contract ran out 30 Jun.

Kenwright offered new contract Jan 2013. Moyes publicly stated he would wait until end of season.

Came out later Utd had been speaking to Moyes since the New Year.

So either, Utd should of been done for an illegal approach or Moyes should of been honest and said he would be leaving at end of season.

It only became public knowledge when Moyes was appointed less than 24hrs after SAF announcement, there was no way Moyes applied for the job or had permission to speak to Utd while under contract in that period.

I totally understand Moyes leaving us for a bigger Club, just be honest, we could of looked to replace him over a 6 month period rather than being caught out.

Everton then got permission to speak to Martinez and it cost us £2Mil in compensation.

Personally, if Everton were devastated about losing Moyes, I blame them. Should have offered him a contract earlier. Always at risk offering a manager a new contract in the second half of their last season, as they could be a target for other clubs.

He obviously couldn't tell the world he was going to Manchester United when that was agreed, as Sir Alex only announced his retirement on 8th May. And, maybe he didn't want to announce he was leaving Everton earlier, in case Ferguson did a u-turn? Or if Man Utd changed their mind. And, if he did announce he was leaving, but couldn't say he was going to Man Utd, then he could have the disruption of other clubs approaching him and the media speculating why he is leaving and where he might go. Or, maybe he didn't want to disrupt the season for Everton.

He was a massive diver in his heyday.

In fairness, the manager has a job to do first and foremost, and that's trying to get a result. Not create heart-warming stories.
Massive diver, I cannot remember what happens last week let alone sad enough to remember someone who does not play for my club did years ago....you need a new hobby

He’d been offered a new long term Contract up to 2 years previously, we had tried to tie him down the whole of that season, it only came to a head in the Jan when he criticised Players for not committing to the Club.

They announced he had signed a 6 year contract less than 24 hours later! There is no way they’d of gotten Everton’s permission to speak to him (he was still under contract regardless of time left on it) and negotiated that contract that quick. Therefore Utd made an illegal approach or Moyes lied when he said he hold talks with Kenwright at the end of the season

Which one of those 2 things do you believe is OK

If I was going to allow myself to get angry, perhaps the best target is Man Utd. Clearly, they knew Fergie was leaving, so they must have approached Moyes in some capacity. If that is illegal, then slap them on the wrist. Although, I've no doubt every single club does this from time to time, with players and managers. Managers, players, club representatives, agents, etc cross paths all the time. I've no doubt that if a person wants another person at their club, they informally have a few private words when they get the chance. Someone might have done that to Moyes. Beyond that, I've no idea. Probably had a longer chat to iron some stuff out, and then arranged to have a final sit down on the 8th May to dot the i's and cross the t's.

People can get angry with whoever they like, which is why I was simply giving my own personal opinion on it (no reason to be angry at all, though probably wish we never got him at all). But, I certainly don't think Moyes would have any motivation whatsoever to annoy Everton fans or officials, after being there so long and having so many good memories. But, when the big club came calling, it must have simply been to big an opportunity to turn down. And an awkward one because he might well have been told everything needs to be kept quiet until Fergie announces his retirement.

But, I definitely stand by my comment that he should absolutely NOT have signed a new contract if he knew that he was leaving.

Did you read mine? The bit where I said: "Always at risk offering a manager a new contract in the second half of their last season, as they could be a target for other clubs"
And that’s fine so long as the other Clubs or the manager conduct themselves in an appropriate manner!🙄

Whose Angry? I’ve not said I’m angry, I just don’t like liars.

SAF had obviously made a choice to retire, Utd then, by fair means or foul, went looking for a replacement and I’ve said I have no issue with that.

Here’s an article from 2011 about Everton offering Moyes a long term contract knowing he only had 2 years left.

Moyes saying in 2012 his new contract could be signed in 5 minutes as he trusts the Chairman snd the Chairman trusts him!

Then in Feb 2013 he told the BBC this,

At the time, no issue, was revealed later he had had contact from Utd.

His behaviour at the end of his time was disappointing for me.

But I’m certainly not angry, far from it, far too old to get angry over something I have no control over. I’ll be downbeat if we sign him, I see it as a backward step and can only hope I have to eat a massive slice of humble pie if he does come back and succeeds.

What the hell are you on about?? Young was well known as a player who dived, and I was only speculating why somebody might not like him. It's not like he's long retired, he's still playing now. 😂

I see the Premier League don't like the narrative of Forest doing well, so have given the MOTM award to Nuno to try and impart the curse

Well, the jokes on them, I'm reliably informed it only works the first time.
Fix!!!

Forest had five wins and a defeat in December. Newcastle had five wins a draw and a loss in the same month. Should have gone to Howe. But then again....when a manager gets MOTM then his teams next result is usually bad....so on this occasion Nuno can have it.

Seriously though....could have gone wither way. Forest have had a great run of results and along with Newcastle are the form team in the league.

Don’t worry, Man U will be tapping him up within 6 months. 😁
