Should Utd just get rid of Bruno ASAP?

He is meant to be the one creative spark. The talisman. The one who can make things happen. And yet, this Man Utd side is the least creative, most impotent Utd side I've remembered in PL history. Occasionally, a player like Amad will hit a purple patch and win a few games, but ultimately can't happen every game. Almost feels like players leave the responsibility to Bruno, who usually fails to deliver. For such a "great" player, you'd think Bruno could find Hojlund a bit more often, get him involved.

Would be interested to see what Amorim thinks of Bruno. Does he see him as fundamental going forward. Or does he see him as a hindrance?

Also, what on earth has happened to Mainoo. He was never the energetic Keane type, but brilliant on the ball and keeping the flow of the game going. This season, he looks like a generic Man Utd player who has just turned into mush.

Bruno, I still like. Frustrating at times, but without him United are even more impotent.

The youngsters I feel sorry for. It should not be down to Mainoo, Amad and Hojlund to carry this United side. But that is how it is now because those around them are either not good enough or are at the end of their careers.

There is no way those three should be starting every game, but one of the biggest failings in recent years has been the absolute absence of a balance between youth and experience.

Part of me feels that is why Rashford’s career has stalled. Too much was expected of him too soon, and the superstar status was thrust upon him too soon and largely without justification. It has doubtless contributed to the decline.

Mainoo, I suspect, has been rushed back from injury too soon. He’s a shadow of the player he was last season, but is still only a raw youngster. He shouldn’t be playing 40 games a season. Neither should Amad. And if United continue to wring every last drop of sweat from them now they will break the pair of them.

I tend to agree, but it seems like for over a year if I was to rate Bruno after a game, it is usually 5 or less (out of 10). Spends a lot of time running about but with no real plan, and gives the ball away by trying Hollywood passes.

In terms of attacking players, the rest of the players around him are kids (often expensive kids). They have no real authority, and possibly look up to Bruno to do the clever stuff most of the time.

But, it's a team game. I like Hojlund, but Utd pay mega star fees for players only with potential. If you want to pay a huge transfer fee, you have to be buying a proven player. Zirkzee, what was the plan with him? Utd desperately need to score goals, so buy Zirkzee who feels like a Fellaini type signing.

Utd have a featherweight attack, who literally are blown over like a crisp packet in a tornado any time an opponent goes near them. Perhaps I'm being harsh on Bruno, and in reality Utd needed to ensure there were at least 2/3 other big time attacking players in the side, who are comfortable taking responsibility for making things happen.

Zirkzee is one of the most peculiar signings of all. Not a striker, and totally lacking if he is supposed to be a 10 in the Premier League. I don’t get him at all.

He’s another who is certainly capable of some really good stuff, but he spends most of his time chasing the game, and lacks the pace or energy needed if United are to play a pressing game.

A really odd piece of transfer business.

Fernandes is a player that you shouldn’t rely on and can’t

He had a hot spell when he arrived but he doesn’t do anywhere near enough for the team - plenty of times he seems a player that’s more about himself than the team

Struggle to think of many top clubs that would spent too much on him or who he would start for

There is some great young talent with Mainoo and the young winger - Dallo ? The young CB

Do like Hojlund and think with the right service would score but I think the rest of the squad don’t look like the a bunch of players that a squad can be built around - Amorin will have a heck of a summer and needs some very smart buying and selling - it’s a mirror image of when Klopp took over , his first summer needed to be good and we sold players like Benteke , Ibe , Allen , Alberto , Skrtel and then spent well on the likes of Mane , Wijnaldum , Matip etc - that’s the sort of summer Man Utd need

Problem is, Phil, virtually every summer is the same.

If Amorim is their man, they need to plan now. Decide who he wants rid of, identify those he wants in, and get the ball rolling as soon as they can.

But in the meantime they need a turnaround and they need it fast. Two bad results against Newcastle and your lot and we will be looking over our shoulder.

The issue with the past summers you have had is who is doing the buying and selling

Whilst Klopp was key for us - so was Edwards , he was the one fleecing teams a lot of money for decent players whilst also being key to bring in the likes of Salah ( Klopp wanted someone else )

United need someone in that DoF role who knows his onions - they went with Ashworth and that’s gone all wrong , they have the ex Man City man and Wilcox there - one of them needs to be the one making the decisions with how the manager wants to play in their minds , when we started the “transfer committee” there was a lot of negativity but it worked with the right people in place

Just watching Escape to Victory on channel 5, great film. If they remade it Cunha would play the Pele role and the Albion players could play the Eastern European footballers, covered in lice and disease...but they could shower before filming I suppose.

For a minute I thought this was a reflection on the days of Hicks and Gillette. Weren't RBS within hours of recalling their loan?

Not sure about recalling the loans but RBS were controlling the sale of the club to sort it out because the owners fell out with each other and it was coming up to the period to renegotiate the loan , it was never going to happen so they sold it

Club was a mess - Hicks and Gillette buying the club on leveraged loans - same way the Glazers did but we didn’t have the income levels for it

Serious shooting practice required by my boys me thinks.
Potter went through a spell of drawing a few mixed with the odd loss . But bounced back .
Anyway it's the season of goodwill so we are being generous to the lesser sides . Bring on the big boys and we will kick their collective rear ends .
