I like to have a joke but I dont read back multiple pages so apologies if I missed some pro-Watkins posts.

I'm very worried about Konsa, he's been ever-present for us for a few years now.
Just fun mate, I think everyone on here last night was in agreement that Watkins should of started before Kane, maybe going forward the best way to use Kane will be as a 2nd half sub.👍🏻

Do you think Kane has the capability to drop into midfield on a permanent basis? He clearly passes the ball beautifully but he does he have the rest of the game to hold that type of roll? He can't be far off thinking about that decision, he was never quick but he is visibly getting slower.

He’s still out best No9/finisher for me, however, I think he’s lost a bit of pace, so the ball over the top to him is pointless.

Therefore, either play to his strengths, ie, wingers and get the ball into the box or allow him to drop deep and allow the midfielders or wide men to push past.

Where I think we struggle(watching the 1st half last night) we couldn’t break them down, he gets no service, gets frustrated and drops looking for the ball, in that type of game, Watkins should be starting as he can run beyond.

As for midfield, no, he said himself it was probably the best pass he’s ever hit.

There seems to be a disconnect between the game that Kane wants to play and the game the England midfield wants to play. I am okay with him playing deep if the midfield are going to make runs like Bellingham. However, if the midfield is not set up for that style of game, him dropping deep ruins the team. Someone is not listening to the coach, hopefully Tuchel will sort that out.

But he’s done it for so long that maybe all the coach’s accept it knowing that in most of the games he’ll produce a goal or a chance.

It’s been mentioned on here and in the media for years.🤷‍♂️

Ruud Gullit did.

Gradually dropped back from a striking position over his career to midfield and finally ended at he base of midfield in an almost Pirlo like role, where he was the focal point for distribution of the ball forward.

Remember him bringing himself on when he was Newcastle manager in a pre-season friendly at Reading, we were being battered and he just sat himself between the back four and the midfield and just started pinging the ball around and dictating play. We came from 2-0 down to draw the game. This would have been summer of 1999 so Gullit would have been approaching 37...was clearly a class above everyone else on the park....but that was club football...different to the international scene...but the scope is there for Kane to "re-invent" himself if he wishes.

Was talking to my mates at golf about this yesterday, but the real issue is who replaces Kane after he's gone, not who plays now. We went from Shearer, to Owen, to Rooney, to Kane - we always seem to have had a world class striker, but I think that run is coming to an end now. I'm not seeing another potential world class striker lined up to take his place. Kane is 31, Watkins is 29 in a few weeks, so he's not a long-term successor, nor is he at the same level anyway. Even Solanke is 27 which is older than I thought, and I don't see him reaching Kane's level.

Maybe there's a case for playing Palmer up front to each the selection issue of how many number 10s we have? Otherwise we are seemingly destined for a generation of good attacking midfielders behind an average striker.

You never quite know who could be coming through though. Most of the players you quote, not Kane ironically, came through at a very young age. Plenty reach that point later on in their career. Our next international striker could be playing in the Championship, for Ipswich etc and we are not really that familiar with them yet. Doesn't mean that they wont be the next one.

There would be a lovely irony if the feller who gave us the most route-one football tactic of all time also sired one our nation's greatest strikers. 😄

Would be class tbf!

He looks very tidy and performing well at Ipswich. No doubt he stays in the prem next year if/ when they go back down. 10/15 goals this season from down there would be an immense showing for a 21 year old!

Just seen a clip from the WSL match between Man Utd and Leicester yesterday. Man Utd had a free kick outside the box and , whilst the Leicester keeper was trying to sort her wall out, 2 players stood immediately in front of her with arms raised to try and put her off. The referee did step in and get them to move but what were they thinking? No way were they going to get away with it
