Wonder what’s happening with United and Amorin

Seems the agreement with the clubs is sorted but nothing confirmed with the manager and he is looking like he will be in charge at the weekend and maybe for the CL game ?

Apparently the major agreement is done so Sporting, United and Amorim are all sorted however it's the rest has not been sorted. He wants to bring his back room team and so Sporting want a bigger payment from United plus United want no notice period so he (and the rest of his lot) can get started ASAP. I guess it'll all come down to how much United are willing to pay.

It’s very narrow view of the players within the squad

GK’a saving and keeping clean sheets are just as key as scoring the goals
Why are you so aggressive? You have single handedly forced 1 member away from this forum this week, do not try it with me as you will fail.

But they're not. If a GK kept 38 clean sheets the team wouldnt win a sausage. Forwards and flair players win the trophies, they simply should be honoured for their efforts.

It is my opinion and i wont be changing it for you buddy!!

Nice work highlighting 1 word from my point. I'm not dismissing Rodri as a footballer.
You might as well be, any player should be able to win the Ballon D'or and saying otherwise is pretty pathetic and does devalue your opinion and thoughts. In fact it just about tops the award for the Ballon D'or of stupid posts. Here have a trophy of your own.

Maybe we should rename it to Ballon D'or of attacking Players award

Maybe Utd could offer them Ruud Van Nistelrooy and a few or their current coaches to take over at Sporting :D

Aggressive ?

And who have I “single handedly” forced to leave 😂

You posted an opinion which I think is a bit out there and appears to not understand the roles of players

Respond to the opinion as opposed to flex some virtual muscles 😂

Cheers

Seems a bit strange that he agrees etc and he may well not take charge until next week

Spot on -

Goal scorers will be key and they will get the highlights

But there always some players in other roles that stand out and enable those goals to be scored

And that includes CBs and GKs

VVD should have won it in 2019 and there have no doubt been key CB’s and GK that should have been recognised during those Messi , Ronaldo years

Rodri is a worthy winner this season

I'd rather they take their time sorting everything out personally, rather than trying to rush things through to try and get started a game earlier. A long way to go in the season, and a heck of a lot of work to do regardless, so rushing things through to get him there before the Chelsea game is probably not critical.

That being said, ETH was sacked on Monday and Utd have talked to Sporting since then. We're only at Wednesday, Sporting had a game last night, so things have seemed to progress pretty quickly as it stands already.

There's not many players in world football who have the ability to win the Balon D'or and it has historically been given to those who are at the top end of the pitch delivering the goods with an ambundance of ability and flair. Recognising that shouldnt devalue my opinion. There's no need for a trophy and on this occassion i will gladly decline your very generous offer.

In your opinion, of course.

At 32 years old, and one of the few players that will ever be discussed as the best player of all time, Messi was still pretty decent. He hadn't lost his magic yet. And, personally I feel he was miles ahead of VVD as the best player in the world.

Obviously, the only way VVD was even in the discussion was because Liverpool happened to win the Champions League in 2019, beating Spurs in the final. In the semi-final Barcelona beat Liverpool 3-0 in the first leg, and it took a 4-0 Liverpool win to stage a great comeback. Had things followed the odds after that 1st leg, I don't think anyone would have been thinking as VVD as the best in the world?

But, I suppose that follows what is said. Ballon D'Or isn't just about simply being the best player in the world, it is largely influenced by what the team does, and which players are regarded most influential in that team. If a player wins Ballon D'Or, who plays for a team that didn't win things that year, that player has to be a truly remarkable player to stand out amongst the best players in trophy winning clubs / national sides.

For me that last bit highlights that Haaland was robbed last year.

I realise football is a subject matter which tends to provoke heated debate, but is it not possible to conduct that debate without endless accusations and catty remarks?

No more please.

Well, no, in reality it's just that we've had the two greatest players of all time battling it out for the last 15 years. Prior to that it has been won by the likes of Cannavaro and Sammer. Of course goals take the headlines, but I don't think an award for the best outright player in the world should favour any particular position or role. It is hard to compare apples and oranges of course, with defensive v attacking players, but I think it's good that someone like Rodri gets recognised for the huge impact he's made.

Vinicius only managed 15 league goals last season to Rodri's 8 as well - it's not like he was ripping it up at goal-per-game levels like other top La Liga players we've seen in the past. Benzema for example when he won had scored 27 league goals the previous season, so that was fair enough.

I completely agree

There can be few complaints about Messi winning many of his previous ones, as one of the best of all time. Unless from maybe Ronaldo. But, to win it last year at Inter Miami was very much the World Cup vote, not the best player in the world at that time.
