On the basis that England have improved marginally since Mainoo and Palmer came on, what odds neither starts the next game?

Mainoo has to start really , better than Trent and Gallagher in that position

If anything Bellingham has been the issue tonight. Foden cam and Palmer left with mainoo in next to rice if Bellingham can't (won't) play deeper.

What exactly is the point of a striker who has the ball on the edge of the box and passes it to the winger 10 yards further out to have a shot?

Absolutely they do. They both had an energy that nobody else has shown. I certainly think Mainoo will start ahead of Gallagher and TAA, but I’m not sure Southgate has the balls to start Palmer.

The problem for me is that England have absolutely no momentum whatsoever. They’re starting the knockout stages very much flat footed.

Very, very poor.
