Now for clarification this isn't a moan about AFCON, since the other day I have been following our situation with kudus with great interest (yes I'm boring)
So Afcon kicks Off 13th January this year. Clubs have to release players named in squads on 1st January. However squads don't have to be named until 3rd January. If a squad isn't announced then players can be played.
So problem number one has been created by either FIFA or the Afcon federation by having 2 different dates.
Problem number two is entirely of the premier leagues making, when we signed kudus we knew he was off to Afcon . However we didn't know our game would be shunted to 2nd January (past deadline one but before deadline two) a game you can't refuse to be selected for TV etc
Now problem three has been created by Ghana head coach Chris Houghton .. he hasn't named his squad . Yet is reported to be insisting kudus meets up on January 1st .. the situation here is if he named his squad today he would be fully be within his rights to refuse kudus to play .. but he hasnt named the squad yet so where does that leave the situation?
So FIFA could have solved the issue by making the squad cut off 1st January
Premier league could have put all fixtures to be completed by 1st January
And Ghana could name their squad now
However another odd one .. found in an article from the previous Afcon
The Afcon federation said all players could play up until 3rd January, with the tournament starting 9th January
So makes it even more curious that a tournament starting later the same isn't being applied
Luckily for the premier league Brightons Afcon players seem to be injured as their nations could give them permission to play and Ghana refuse kudus , creating a situation where one team is at a disadvantage
The simple solution seems to be let all Afcon play this round of fixtures and then go however you can fully understand if your star playing is involved you don't want them risked so can see both sides of it.

What is clear is that whenever Afcon is played clear rules and equally applied needs to be brought in. I mean Salah should be playing tonight but should be released by the rules. Eygpt just gave their permission
As per the standard article above a situation where a manager doesn't have a clue right now if a player (who's fit and healthy) is cleared to play or not
Knowing our luck we will play him then be fined for fielding a player we shouldn't after it's
rule he shouldn't play lol

West Ham in dark over Kudus and Aguerd exits for Africa Cup of Nations
David Moyes says the lack of clarity is "very unusual" as the tournament is just two weeks away
