Yes - Spurs and Chelsea did a similar thing to them - if you have a real go, you'll concede but you can score as well. I didn't watch last night's game but fair play to Villa for doing it without conceding!

Are Villa title contenders though? Interesting question. They have Arsenal next so I guess we'll find out soon enough.
I think as far as Villa can go is to be a disruptor. They don't have the depth to win a title IMO. Same with Emery's Sevilla, they were hard to beat, scared the bejesus out of bigger teams but just didn't have the resources to match the application and approach. Villa seem to fit the same mould at the moment.

IF, and it's a big if, Villa can maintain that energy and approach against Arsenal then they will certainly have a good chance of another 3 points. Arteta has Arsenal playing very similarly (except they are willing to put a high ball in to the box) and from the games I've seen where Arsenal struggle, again it's because teams press them in to panic (Lens did this really well in the home leg, hassling and harrying the player in possession while closing down the options). When Arsenal (and City) have time and space to play the ball (conversely Lens did this terribly in the Emirates fixture) that's where they hurt team by quick and fluid passing.

Luton showed this Tuesday night, press them. Make them think about needing a plan B or C and that's where the panic sets in.

It wasn't just "without conceding".

Man City had two shots in the entire game, both from Haaland, both part of the same attacking move......in the 10th/11th minute......for the remainder of the game they offered nothing by way of serious threat to the Villa goal.

We are not even close to title contenders and I'm a very optimistic fan :ROFLMAO:

I expect Arsenal to win on Saturday but a great game between 2 good sides.

Listening to Cooper's interview after the game, it was interesting to try and read between the lines. He was very honest in saying he simply wants whatever is best for Forest. Clearly passionate about the club, but it almost felt like he was resigned to losing his job now, and almost like he might feel it would be for the best.
Yea. I think it's just delaying the inevitable.

Strange, I thought you were doing rather well until just recently. Things change pretty quickly in football. I mean, you beat Villa who are now third in the league!

It still looks like Luton, Burnley & Sheffield to go down to me. They seem a class below everyone else. Everton to stay up even with the ten point deduction.
Indeed. And we played well. I think, given his inexperience as a top level coach (he's only been doing it 4 and a bit seasons), the make up of the squad is very important (at this stage of his career).

Look at the promotion squad - fully of hungry, young players who would die for the shirt along with savvy loans who would also die for the shirt. We played attacking, flowing football and they would have taken a bullet for him.

With the 40 players we've bought in, we're now a squad full of mercenaries who care more about playing in the premier league than they do the club or the manager and I think getting some of these bigger, overpaid types is maybe a step too far for Cooper to manage at this stage of his journey.

I'm convinced if he goes somewhere like Palace - who have a decent crop of young, hungry players and some older heads, he'll get a solid tune out of them. Had we been able to keep the core of our promotion squad together, we'd be in a solid position right now.

Who’s choice was it to change the players ?

Yeah, it's always something to be wary of, bringing in too many players. It worked in keeping you up, but hard to manage longer term when certain players are getting left out of the side and fighting for attention.

Is this accurate or an exaggeration?

We didn't have a choice, unfortunately. When Cooper came in, we were at the end of a transfer embargo and had no money, so relied on half the team to be made up of Loan players - and a bunch had contracts expired and wanted to move on (Brice Samba, for example)

Accurate, unfortunately. Of those, maybe a dozen would be worth keeping.

Couple that with players that don't care if they're here or not...No wonder Cooper's struggling to find some consistency.

Barnsley were kicked out of the FA Cup for an illegible player but Forest Green get to replay their match for same offence? Not sure where the consistency is
Barnsley - breached rule 103 & fielded an unregistered player. Disqualified.

FGR - breached rule 109 & fielded a registered loan player but without permission to play from parent club.

So what’s sacking the manager going to achieve ?
Wont the players have the same attitude with the new one.
Bonkers!

We might get a bit of a new manager bounce - then the players will down tools again when things aren't going our way and the cycle repeats.

it's been this way at Forest (and other clubs; See Watford) for years.

And Marinakis has a terrible track record at appointing good managers. Olympiacos have had 6 managers in less than 2 years 😅

Oh lord. Yeah, you can afford one window like that where you just need to stack up a squad, but you'll never ever have success when you promise 40 players in a 12 month period that they're going to play football for Forest... only 1/4 can :ROFLMAO:

This is where we fell fortunate in some senses, a few of the early signings (and we also made a lot) are now key pieces of a successful side, but only a few. The rest have been moved on now after 4 seasons and we added key pieces (players) to fill the glaring holes year upon year.

Just about to post this and thought the same, any idea why that is 🤔
