Quote from Jamie Carragher

The 10 point deduction for Everton is excessive and not right, considering they have been working with the PL about this for the last couple of years. Would it have been better to be evasive and try to drag it out like other clubs?

"No doubt relegated clubs will have put big pressure on the PL to deal with Everton, but when you consider 6 clubs tried to leave the PL and there was no sanction at all it doesn’t feel right.

"Until other clubs are sanctioned Everton will feel they are being used to show there is no need for an independent regulator, and they are right."

It feels weird, I like what he has written
The Commission's view, "Everton's understandable desire to improve its on-pitch performance (to replace the non-existent midfield, as Mr Moshiri put it in evidence) led it to take chances with its PSR position.

"Those chances resulted in it exceeding the £105m threshold by £19.5m.

"The position that Everton finds itself in is of its own making. The excess over the threshold is significant. The consequence is that Everton's culpability is great.

"We take into account the fact that Everton's PSR trend over the relevant four years is positive, but cannot ignore the fact that the failure to comply with the PSR regime was the result of Everton irresponsibly taking a chance that things would turn out positively."

Sounds like the owner rolled the dice in certain aspects and lost.

Potentially so. Covid certainly didn't help, the big losses occurred then. It has been noted how Everton have worked with the PL for some time in correcting the finances, to bring them in line with the rules, so the rule breaking has not been consistent and ongoing. 10 points for a £19.5m overspend seems pretty steep. I'm sure Everton, and others, will be watching both City and Chelsea with interest in the coming months and years. If £19.5m = 10 points, I hope the PL will be consistent. I wont be holding my breath though.

Interesting debate point. This weekend is the first derby weekend in rugby whereby the fixtures, as far as there is one, are all local derbies. Just something to try and drum up some much needed support and media attention.

With the debate around football on Xmas eve etc, would it work to have a football derby weekend for the Xmas fixtures to reduce travel for all fans and make them more palatable and less susceptible to public transport issues.

Who told you that the football governing bodies care about fans?? Just walking pound signs. 😆

Would be great for PR, potentially full grounds, good for sponsors and for TV ad revenue and also for local businesses. Think it would work even on a pound sign level.

That’s far to sensible for Football Big Wigs.

Whether its £1 or £100m Everton have broken rules they signed and agreed to.

I'm sure many Evertonians will be pointing at City and their 115 charges and rightfully asking why but investigating 1 charge v 115 charges will always take longer.

The PL have set the bar with regards to punishment though. I expect Citys owners to be quaking in their boots

The old football league used to do this but it stopped in the early 90's iirc when football was created...

Was talking to my wife about Everton ( she’s a blue)

She said “well they have broken the rules , would a professional golfer who breaks the rules be sanctioned”?

But she added “ The PL need to be consistent with their punishments “

Sadly I just don’t think they will!

So tonight's game is against a minnow in Malta, I bet that GS has us playing the same defensive rubbish when we go one nil up , no disrespect to Malta but you could put Accrington Stanley out there against them and expect to win easily.but Southgate will be anything but the same boring knock it about at the back instead of going for it .it's not like we haven't qualified is it.

Yes that’s why I can’t understand Henderson and Rashford.

Give Maguire a pass as the lads been playing well lately.

I'm glad he has used this game to blood the young henderson... Really must be an exciting talent for the future
