Hugely disappointed in Henderson , thought a lot more of him and leaves with a bit of sour taste

Players will always chase the money and it’s very poor to see players still in their prime like Neves , Mahrez and Fabinho

But Henderson I thought have higher morals than others especially with his work during Covid and been very vocal supporting LGBQT

He was club captain and his legacy is a bit tainted now 😢
Do people actually think that footballers are still ideal role models? In the past couple of weeks e have had Mendy and Giggs involved in court cases, Grealish acting like a drunken yob caressing random women and these are the ones we hear about. Not sure I would want my kids (if I had any) looking up to the likes of them

Bit slanderous towards Grealish tbf... Not seen any evidence of that at all.

But you're right, they aren't perfect humans, just working class lads who kick a ball for a living and earn a shed load.

Some are yes

Every walk of life has bad apples and good apples

Henderson over the years has been pretty clean and worked very hard during Covid and been very clear his message , same with the likes of Rashford etc

There are plenty of footballers and other sports stars that do a lot of good and are clean - unfortunately the highlight will always be on the bad apples

Even when Rashford when he was doing his work for school meals was getting stick from fans for doing it with people having a go at him saying it wasn’t his job etc

It is a shame that there always minority that spoil an image

Wow talking about trying to make a huge story out of nothing.
Have you seen the video, they seem to be sat together, she has her arm around him and he appears to put his hand on her leg when she stands up to dance, hardly stroking her leg like the headlines say 🤣

But from the driving ‘v’ cyclist thread still photos should be taken with a pinch of salt. Did he didn’t he? I don’t care but he’s naive to think he can do anything that might be open to misinterpretation.

Henderson and Saudi; true colours coming out or pragmatism as his earning power wanes? Again, an easy choice for him to make IF he stays true to his previous statements. Disappointing but it will soon be yesterday’s news.

Footballers are role models for the people who wear football shirts when out for a meal on holiday and who dress their kids in full kit.

Which is a lot of people.

You say that as if footballers are somehow different to every other human being.

Plenty of footballers are probably extremely well behaved, but out of all the thousands of pro footballers, you highlight 3 specific footballers as representing them all. And, even out of those 3 players you mention, 2 have not been convicted of anything, and the other is simply known as being a bit of a party boy. Maybe there are a few silly, immature things Grealish does. However, there also appears to be plenty of evidence he is very warm to fans, and has made the dreams of a few kids and disadvantaged people come true, simply by engaging with them. To some, he may well be a huge role model, and parents of kids extremely thankful to him

My question was partly rhetorical. A lot of people, especially in the media, hold certain groups of society in higher regard when it comes to being role models and expects them to act in a 'whiter than white' sort of way. This has also been shown on this forum in the way that some people are disappointed in how Henderson has chosen to (possibly) prolong his career and get some more money in his pocket before he retires. Why shouldn't he look after his future when most of us would change employers for a pay rise?

In his instance, his future is already pretty secure. He has spent pretty much all of his career on PL wages, riding the football boom. He is a multi millionaire already. Staying at Liverpool he would remain on massive wages. He has the luxury of being able to pick and choose.

I'm not bothered if he goes or not but his position is more privileged than most.

Maybe so, but he will probably earn in 3 years what he's earned across the rest of his career if not more...

Its absolutely obscene money.

He is just getting ahead of the game. Simple fact is that football has sold its soul, even being a simple Billionaire is really not enough fund some clubs now, you need to be a muti billionaire just to afford the buy in costs. Give it less than a decade and the middle east will pretty much own the sport in this country.
