In his instance, his future is already pretty secure. He has spent pretty much all of his career on PL wages, riding the football boom. He is a multi millionaire already. Staying at Liverpool he would remain on massive wages. He has the luxury of being able to pick and choose.

I'm not bothered if he goes or not but his position is more privileged than momost
Not sure this is a great argument. Otherwise, why do billionaires like Musk continue to look to make more money? They had more than they'd ever really need a long long time ago.

Somebody on £30,000 a year may live a perfectly happy life, and think they would not need much more. Yet, would they criticise someone on £80,000 a year chasing a job worth £100,000 a year?

Most of us chase the money if the opportunity arises. Henderson lives in luxury compared to us, but he can improve this even more on £700,000 a week. He may not have been able to afford, easily, the mega mega property, yet now he'll have a few more mansions in his price bracket. Maybe a few more luxury yachts if that's his thing?

However, the major criticism towards Henderson were his views on LGBTQ. Fair enough, if he wants to put himself out there and stand up for something like that. But, if you do, you probably want to make sure you are prepared to stand up for it, rather than take the money. Otherwise it just looks like a hollow gesture.

Na I would rather stay here in the pissing down rain and cold than be spoiled rotten there.:p

I think it’s his stance on LGBTQ+ that’s been criticised.
But that never stopped anyone going to the World Cup.
Morals tend to go out of the window when offered that kind of money.
Not sure how much others are earning in Saudi, but £700k for someone that hoofs the ball & claps a lot is crazy.
Surely Stevie G is getting a cut.

Maybe so, but he will probably earn in 3 years what he's earned across the rest of his career if not more...

Its absolutely obscene money.
Oh, I get it completely. It is not quite the same as someone on £40k a year being offered £120k though. It's a rich person getting even richer. Getting a second Bentley because some days they want to drive a blue one and some days a silver one. Imagine if you only had one 😱

But this is getting your kids, kids, kids a Bentley money :ROFLMAO:

It's a perfectly fine argument. Money gives you the luxury to make choices. Henderson doesn't need to go to Saudi to keep his family in luxury, they are already there. Yes, he can upgrade everything but he doesn't need to. He is able to make a choice without the pressure of paying bills on top of him.

Your last sentence sums it up though. That is why he is being highlighted and not other players.

I don't need a bigger house or a more expensive car (I don't live in a big house btw). But, if I was given massively more money to do the same job for a few years, I'd probably do it. And buy a much bigger house than I need.

It is all relative. We simply say Henderson shouldn't really do it because he already lives in luxury, because we simply can't understand what it is like to live with the money they have. But, time and time again, rich people make decisions to get even richer. And many of us would do the same. It is just easier to think we wouldn't because we'll never be in that position, so it makes us sound like better human beings.

I thought one of the privileges of having great wealth is that it gives you the luxury of being able to turn down jobs in counties where you don’t want to live and whose regime either you find abhorrent or makes you a hypocrite.

It will be interesting going forward. Clubs, and many of their fans, emphasise that it has been history and tradition that has brought them global recognition and why players head there. The current situation will see if the same ends can be achieved in a short period by having a damned big cheque book.

The Premier league must be getting worried.
This isn’t going to be a flash in the pan like the Chinese league was a few years ago.

It will not just be the premier league. Even with the wealth there, prices are up to a level where maybe 4-5 clubs can afford to pay what is being demanded. Give it another couple of years and you may be down to 2 or 3. Then in Europe, only 2 clubs even try and compete wiht premier league spending and they are financially maxed out. In its pursuit of money, football has left itself wide open and this is the natural progression. Not long until only the middle eastern owned teams in Europe can afford the best players and compete.

I’m not sure why people are surprised these boys are going for more money, it’s just a job to them at the end of the day, nothing more nothing less.

Anthony Elanga from Man Utd to Forest for around £15 million seems a bit of a bargain for Forest. A bit surprised that Utd are letting him go for that. Would assume that there's either a buy back or sell on clause included in the deal.
