Ward-Prowse is one of those players I'm not sure about. I'm sure he's decent, but is he overrated just because he scores loads of free kicks? Like, if he didn't have the free kicks, would anyone talk about him? Not sure.

He is a very good passer of the ball, and the good soucek does I believe he would do better .. make the midfield more fluid built around paquata
However whilst he does take a brilliant free kick (not just scoring but assisting) we need a set piece taker
We also need a captain so bring in leadership like his

He never seems to stand out on the pitch when I see Southampton play (unless he scores a free-kick). I don't watch Southampton with as observant an eye as their own fans would, so I'm not sure if he just quietly goes about and does a very solid and efficient job, or if he is just a fairly average player in open play?

The first one. Like many other players before him those who just go about their job and you don't notice they are there
It's why for ages rice wasn't as highly rated outside of west ham because people just thought oh here we go another English talent over hyped by the press

Yeah I rate JWP. Think he could step up in a better team than Southampton and look better than he did there.
Also - the "take away the free kicks" argument is a weird one (I know its not you that raised it) - facts are he's class at them and would add something to any team in that department.

He's definitely Prem standard so I'm sure he'll leave Southampton, not much doubt about that. I'm just not sure where his level is. Mid-table or better?

Cresswell has been our kick taker for a while . We have had to shoe horn Him into the team and carry him in many games for that ability
I'd rather get someone like JWP in who does a fantastic job in midfield keeping it tidy aswell
No one knows is the obvious answer to me. If I was Aston Villa, I’d be having a look at him but I wouldn’t see a Liverpool or Man Utd taking a punt. He’s not young so unlikely to improve much and without knowing just where his level is, I think he’s missed his shot at the top table.Is it? I guess the same could be said about Rory Delap and throw-ins. I think any team would have absolutely loved that in their armoury. I remember opposition teams would sooner concede a corner than a throw-in when he was playing. However, not sure the top teams would have had him, because take away the throw-ins, he probably wasn't up to their standards.

Looking on Spurs Facebook pages (I know I shouldn't) it surprises me how many people don't rate Hojbjerg. I thought he was one of our better players. From what I've read about Ange, he'll look to play an attacking 4-3-3, presumably you have Hojbjerg deep, Bentancur alongside, and we'll need a more attacking player in there as well. Bissouma is still around, I'd actually give Ndombele a game - I'd love to see what he can do in more of a free role because he was incredible on the ball. Skipp would only be back-up for Hojbjerg for me. Bissouma covers Bentancur. I wouldn't really see the point of buying Ward-Prowse.
Just imagine if they brought in rolling subs to the Premier League - suddenly Ward-Prowse would be worth about £150mil.

He's a workhorse CM though. Covers insane distance.
I'm not saying he's top 5 prem talented - but hes certainly a good footballer and could easily play for palace or a team of that ilk

He wasnt the quality of footballer than JWP is though, he had a team that worked for him and his skillset.
JWP is good enough for a better level of team - he's made the England squad in the past for a reason

JWP is a good player , he is your solid mid table centre mid who can hit a good set piece , he isn’t worth the £50mil that’s being asked but then looking at some of the prices the world is going more than mad

Certainly fit in at villa or west ham imo especially with Europa football.. those extra games any extra body who can be used the rotate the games
Take Flynn downes .. bearly played all season however because of all our games appeared in 35 games

Right, it's Friday, I'm bored - squad analysis time. 
What do we all think our squads are lacking?
Just so many problem areas it's a bit of joke. Hopefully we get Raya over the line to sort the goalkeeper problem. We're just woefully short of adequate defenders, I'm not sure how this has been allowed to happen. The centre of midfield looks alright, but word is Ange will play an attacking 4-3-3 and the only two options for the attacking role are two players who have been stuck out on loan and never impressed for us. Can't see us signing Maddison to be honest. Perisic will leave I think, and Gil was useless, so with Lucas and Danjuma having gone, we're woefully short in attack as well. Even if Kane doesn't go, let alone if he does!
I shouldn't have done this, it actually looks a lot more depressing now I've put it on paper.
