Incidentally, Ancelotti came 10th but with a points total of 59, better than Allardyce or others since, and the best total for 4-5 seasons. I wouldn't mind 59 points now.

But it’s not anywhere near best of the rest or 4-7.

The club have spent well £600mil since 2017 I think

The fans didn’t want Martinez , Koeman , Silva , Allardyce , Rafa

All proven managers at other clubs

But they wanted Lampard and prob got behind him more than any other of those other managers. Just really strange

As someone said - using the Villa example and maybe Newcastle , getting relegated and then building up maybe the way to go

I feel like Everton are quite comparable to AVFC in regards to their relegation. (and Burnley at a push but not as "big" a club)

Big club, big fan base but owners who make or break you.

Their only hope really, would be a takeover while down and a proper rebuild. I don't see them managing to achieve this in the premier league. I cant think of many teams that have totally rebuilt whilst maintaining league status.

Hindsight is wonderful, Relegation was the last thing any Villa fan wanted, but I don't think any of us would trade what we've been through to be where we are now. It was probably the best thing to happen to us.

That is - Great owners, solid foundations and plans for the future which look extremely viable and sustainable.

HOWEVER

Sunderland also show the other way it can go..
Aston Villa are a bigger club than Everton. Everton may have a big support base but worldwide they are just another Premier League team. Apart from a FA Cup win in the 90's they haven't really threatened anything since. I was stuck on the M25 Car Park one saturday evening a couole of months ago and and a few Everton fans rang 5Live phone in. Their fans dream of an 80's style renaissance and they believe they should be playing Champions league football but i think there high expectations are hindering the club.

They've had major investment but have wasted 100's of millions on overpriced rubbish.

4-7 is an achievable target for us, or was. Same as Spurs, Leicester, West Ham last year etc. Basically, best of the rest and if the top boys have an off year, ie Chelsea this season, Utd for the last few, etc then grabbing 4th is a possibility. It doesn't mean we can do it but the team that Moyes built had us in and around that level. We are a long way from that now but that has to be the aim for a club like Everton. We don't have the money to challenge for top 4 consistently but we can challenge in the next group. That we haven't recently is secondary. With Newcastle coming to the fore that probably shifts again but as we have seen with Chelsea and Utd, not right now to be fair, even the biggest have wobble years and it is up to those next layer teams to take advantage when it happens.

If I said 5-8, would that be better? Probably more realistic, not right now of course. 5-8 and be entertained. Brighton for example have done exactly that this year, Aston Villa as well. That has to be our target.
5th-8th would be very successful when you think of the power above. The top 6 is now 7 Arsenal,Chelsea Liverpool, Manchester City, ManU, Spurs and now Newcastle. Then you've got a couple of teams that are currently well set up like Villa, Brentford and Brighton. If they continue to improve on the upward curve they're showing now, you would do well to finish top 10. Would the fans accept this?

I know lampard will take the brunt for this.... But how can players of this quality look so so bad in defensive situations.

My word, Chelsea are bad. Really, really bad. They’re playing an Arsenal side who are arguably slightly low on confidence and they are absolutely all over the place. I have no clue what their game plan is, what formation they are playing, nothing. They are beyond shocking.

Still. At least they have been consistent under Lampard. Will he ever get another Premier League job? Hopelessly out of his depth, as anyone who saw his dreadfully superficial press conference yesterday must surely agree. He made Solskjaer look insightful.

😂😂

So Chelsea 😂😂 £600mil to be 12th 9 points above the relegation zone

Not even Spurs can do that

I don’t know anyone who can explain why sack Tuchel and then why bring in Lampard

agree with most of that apart from the Chelsea top 7 bit. If there form since Xmas had been the same from the start of the season we would be looking at the other two teams to join them in the championship next season

I'm sure they'll get it right in the summer. A new manager and a clearout of players there's enough individual quality in that squad to be top 8 easily.

How is hooking Aubameyang and replacing him with Havertz going to make any difference whatsoever to the way this game is playing out?

Ave just realised that I don’t think I ever got round to thanking Chelsea for buying Sterling from City. So thankyou.
