It comes down to subjective opinions. I feel the linesman overreacted. However, rightly or wrongly, I feel the decision to do nothing more to the linesman is the right one. The officials are having enough trouble with over zealous players without having to worry about their own organisation penalising them.

I’d like to see a rule change that stipulates only the captain can, respectfully, approach the ref. Any other player, no warnings, straight yellow. The jostling and forcing the ref to take steps back as they crowd him/her is appalling.

Agreed. Every word.

I was listening the radio the other day and I heard the most laughable excuse for hassling the ref, diving, play acting, appealing for penalties or cards etc. It was all put down to it being part of the 'theatre' of the match, playing to the crowd to increase excitement and entertainment. The officials were the pantomime villains for the crowd to 'boo' and the diving and appealing etc was all just increasing drama. I now believe that there is nothing that some people will not try and pass of as an acceptable part of sport including cheating and intimidation.

That sounds like something Martin Keown would say. Please tell me it was him!!!

Absolutely. I was out for New Years Eve once. From corner of my eye at the dinner table, I could see a mate making a movement with his hand toward me. Instinctively, I threw salt in his eyes. Turns out, he was only moving his arm for a perfectly innocent reason, but seeing something suddenly come into my personal space, I reacted, and just so happened to have salt in my right hand. Completely over the top reaction, but it was hilarious once everyone got over the shock.

I enjoyed Keane's assessment of Robertson, he really is a "big baby". Like many players, he thought he'd go and have a right moan to the official, getting close and personal. The officials reaction may have seen over the top, but I've no doubt it was intentional. I hardly believe the official decided "I'm going to smash him in the face here", and it looked completely instinctive as "get off me". Then several of the Liverpool players acted like big babies, going and crying to the referee.

I hope the incident pushes us closer to a time when officials are less tolerant of whinging players. That goes for players that play for my own team.
I only saw the clip that was from the camera miles away, but that's how it looked to me. Robertson tried to grab the lino and he jerks his arm out to shake him off. Robertson cries about it. Absolutely something of nothing.

Well, with all their injuries/missing players, Forest won't get a better chance at getting something against United on Sunday..

Which means we'll probably end up losing 2-1 instead of 6-1 😆

Still, I'm driving up for the game and have yet to see us lose this season...so there is that 🙏

Not sure what you mean when you refer to an excessive force rule. There is a concept of reasonable force but that is a legal defence to certain offences. If there is a rule relating to excessive force in football I’d be really surprised.

Regardless, I think there’s a danger that we’re over complicating this. Mitrovic made the conscious decision to push the referee at Old Trafford. I would suggest the linesman at Anfield instinctively reacted to having hands placed on him. I very much doubt he made deliberate move to elbow Robertson, so we’re comparing apples with pears.
Definition here. Be surprised!
It seems that the disciplinary panel agree that linesman striking of the player was unintentional, so no further action required

It is! But, to me, not in a positive way!

Yes that’s my main gripe about this situation.
It was a golden opportunity to put a stop to this but they ( club also) have chosen to brush it under the carpet.
It should have been a moment for change!

I mean, our injury woes are far worse, but I hope Cooper just rolls the dice and goes for it.

Apparently our new sporting director wants to bring in Gerrard, so unless Cooper starts winning games, we are really, really, REALLY screwed 😬😬

So Martinez has done a metatarsal and Varane will be missing for a “few weeks”. I wonder if Paddy Power are offering a cash out on my Europa League/FA Cup double.

Klopp has done enough whinging about other clubs spending money that if Liverpool did splash £100m on Bellingham then he would have to sit in a corner looking sheepish, saying nothing, for a very long time indeed.
I think his spending on Nunez, VVD, Allison for example put him in the corner some time ago. He has a very selective memory on the spending front.
