yeah pull the other one its got bells on it lol

Seriously, that’s my view of that tackle. It’s not reckless, he’s pulled his foot back when he knows he’s not getting the ball.

If Fernandes doesn’t go for that ball he’s going to get as much criticism for a lack of commitment and effort. He can’t really win, can he?

Anyhoo, nice to get a win after the weekend. And nice to see who scored. Another for Rashford's tally, a desperately needed goal for Weghorst and the other 2 from the most criticised players from Liverpool game.

Changing tack slightly, that’s another great cameo from Facundo Pellistri. I’d love to see him get more game time.

And as someone said on the BBC Sport site, it’s a funny old game when you see United thrash the side which drew with the side which recently thrashed the side which thrashed United at the weekend.

I really thought I’d was a red as the intent was there.
He certainly realised he wasn’t going to get there and eased back but I thought he knew what he was doing.

On a side note that no-one has mentioned is the one on Rashford by the keeper.
Out of the area and out of control and easily a red card.
Won’t get mentioned because it doesn’t fit the agenda.

There was another interesting offside decision. Not one that really had any impact on the game, but made me think about what we are told about the rule.

A United player was offside on the right when ball was played through. No problem, the defender controlled the ball, looked up and then passed it forward. However, as he did so, the Man Utd player ran past him. Didn't make a challenge, didn't intercept the ball. However, the linesman then flagged for offside and a free kick was given. How does that fit in with the narrative that offside is not given if the defender makes a deliberate attempt to play the ball!? Or do they have a different offside rule in Europe?

Thoughts on this re times in games Played.
I think it worked well in the World Cup. A shock at first but we quickly got used to 8, 10 minutes being added etc. I agree that time-wasting will actually shorten when defending teams realise they're just putting more pressure on themselves with 12 minutes of gung-ho stoppage time to deal with.

Gary Lineker to step down from presenting MOTD, for now anyway. To be honest, I always thought he was playing with fire given the BBC guidelines. I mean, there is no way Gary Neville could be employed by the BBC given the opinions he likes to share. Lineker is probably not far behind :)

It’s been coming for a while. When Lineker first started broadcasting he was understandably wooden, but improved over a period of time to the point where I enjoyed watching him.

Alas, as time has progressed and his salary increased I’m afraid Lineker has become a little too big for his boots and has increasingly pushed the boundaries with his comments. It’s almost as though he has been testing his employers to see how much they are willing to tolerate. It’s long since reached the point where I actually dislike him - give me Mark Chapman on MOTD all day long.

Hopefully this will give Lineker the opportunity to reflect on what his specialism is - presenting football coverage - and leave the edgy political remarks to others. In that way he might just revert to being the presenter I used to admire.

Pathetic from the BBC. Funny how there was none of this when Alan Sugar was spouting his views.

The BBC aren't his employer, he's freelance so therefore a contractor:)
Whether he's actually any good is another arguement:)

I'm glad he's finally been called out, his views are extreme.

Hopefully MOTD can grow more from this.
