The whole point of banning players is to provide more of an incentive not to get sent off in first place. If they do, it is punishment for doing so.

It isn't to punish any one player or team in relation to a specific competition. So, the ban is simply a domestic ban, regardless of competition.

I suspect if a team were 3-0 down in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, and one of their players got sent off for violent conduct, all hell would kick off if the ban only applied to the FA Cup. Especially if that player ended up moving abroad at end of season.

Awful commentator

Yet again this evening, when talking about Liverpool, he has referred to “us”. In commentary you never, ever hear Gary Neville refer to United the same way.

It’s long overdue Sky Sports pulled Carragher from commentary on Liverpool games. We all know he’s biased, of course he is. He’s an ex-player and a fan. But he makes no effort to hide the fact.

I don’t get why it bothers people, genuinely I think it would be weird if he wasn’t. Plenty of it out there Shearer and Wright are prime examples. I’m more annoyed by the drivel he spouts, very much the male Karen Carney of punditry in my opinion.

I would say he’ll now have a stormer, just to spite us. But this is Loris Karius we’re talking about, who makes Massimo Taibi look like a safe pai
There’s a flaw in that plan, though. If you’re sent off on a cup match and your side are then knocked out, how do you serve the ban?
well you can’t so it’s over .
swings and roundabouts I suppose.
I just think it’s unfair if sent off in a league game to miss the only cup final you may ever get to In your whole career.

Great win for the reds but should have been so many more .
squandered some great chances.

Newcastle played very well imo given they were down to ten.
I liked Howe showing Jolinton who’s in charge.

One thing that I didn’t like was a man goes down and the ref stops play for a head injury.
but Newcastle refuse to let the phisio on to check him because he will have to leave the pitch.

if he collapses after the restart they would have some serious questions to answer.

Really important win - two very good finishes for the goals

Gakpo looking more confident as each game passes and good to see the likes of Jota returning from injury

Got to keep getting the wind to inch up that table

Neville is as biased just like Richards is biased for City etc

but Jamie Redknapp is prob the worst pundit by a country mile

We basically set up to be Helm’s Deep from LOTR. And it basically worked. YOU SHALL NOT PASS.

Plenty of possession for City but our back line had them rattled and pressured them when needed which had them off their best. Could have been 5-6 goals for City but Navas, Felipe and Worrall were absolute warriors today.

Was never going to be pretty but job done.
Think that was the most pleasing result for us of the season so far

How is it even a debate 🤷‍♂️

It’s a clear a red card as you will see all season - there was only one decision and even Pope knew
In fairness, I think you are overreacting. He didn't say it wasn't a red card. He said he didn't know the exact rule, felt his defenders might have got back to cover, and felt it might have been a harsh call (based on his interview immediately after game with Sky).

That wasn’t my point.
it’s a league game . Stonewall red but why miss the final?
just my opinion ,but if he only makes one final in his career harsh imo.

Hes caught out by the wind , but just clear it with your feet.
If he got sent off for violent conduct, would you also feel sorry for him missing the final?
