The Demise of "classic" looking golf shoes

When I started playing golf the shoes had a funny frilly bit which covered the laces. I was never quite sure what they were for and asumed they were part of some sort of masonic ritual that was explained when you got member ship of a golf club. By the time I became a member they had vanished so I never discovered what they were for.

:D:D

I don't see why people restrict their golf shoes to the older shoe style to be it's an impractical design.

There are better materials, lighter materials that are more durable and also more comfortable out there which are more fit for purpose.

You wouldn't go to the gym or for a jog in your best shoes, so why would you go for a 6-8 mile cross country walk in them.

I've always been in the more "traditional" shoe camp.
I've recently treated myself to a pair of the new Adidas Adiboost trainer type ones, and whilst I admit they are comfortable, you have to be very careful what style of trouser you wear them with.
I can get away with certain pairs of Chino's but nothing beats a nice brogue (whether they are black, white or tan) with a nice pair of smart slacks.

You wouldn't rock up at the gym in a pair of trousers either. Horses for courses. As Smiffy eludes to. You're going to attract the attention of the fashion police wearing trousers and trainers!

The fashion police only get arsey if your chino's aren't ironed!

I'm not saying you need trainers style, but shoes like adizero, Nike lunars, puma cells all seem better suitable with more stability in the sole design and better suited materials

Are you sure about that?

A pair of shoes rarely last me more than a season now, and thats with sometimes wearing one for summer and one for winter.

They cost silly amounts of money these days and last half as long, from my experience.

I am not for one second saying anyone should only wear smarter shoes. I own a pair of DNA's as well as my more swanky Eccos.

I do have a pair of Adidas samba style trainers, though they are only used when wearing shorts.. I.e not very often.

Mind you, call me old fashioned (im 35) but i would not been seen dead in any of these modern looking shoes....

It's how you look after them

My adizero are just about to go into their 3rd winter and my puma cells have just finished their second summer. The adidas show no signs of wear and will easily do another winter and the cells which are white show very little wear. Both get treated with FOOTJOY dubbing once a month.

The cells generally do from April to early October, and the adidas do the crap weather as they are black.

Yup I'm sure!

Both are hideous, but most models are available in a nasty colour

The most comfortable shoes I've owned are the new Icons I've just bought closely followed by the Nike Lunar II's which are very contrasting styles

What ones did you buy?

The new black ones are stunning. The Ecco World class look great also.

On a side note my Eccos arrived today. Only worn them around the house but they feel far superior in terms of comfort compared to the Mizunos i had. The top and bottom of my feet feel nice and cushioned.

Did well getting them for the price i did

I got a pair second hand off eBay but the guy said he wore them once and they were too big for him, they're green, black and yellow (Jamaican flagish) but they have the BOA laces.
I had the Mizuno MP's and they tore my feet to bits no matter what I tried to do to fix them

Thing is Craigg, it's known as "class".
Something either you've got or you haven't got.
I'm lucky in that I have it in bucketloads.

Indeed. Spotted a chap only this morning on the course. Very nice shirt, trousers......then what looked like Christian Ronaldos boots on his feet
Is it me?
