Who here is using the clock method for their short game ? i don't but my short is not bad but wondering if this will help me or just add another thought in to my swing.

Has it been any ones break trough my 10 -12 hcp to single figures ?

Pokerjoke and i were talking about this on the "wedge" post in here.

I am going to it, PJ is using it.

IMHO, if you do your homework and actually label your club as per Pelz suggestion, no need for any other swing thoughts!

Ive got the book but not read it yet, will be winter reading for me and maybe putt it into practice before next season.

Will be keeping an eye on other peoples progress with it too. Will be interested to hear if people have shown a marked improvement.

My short game has improved drastically in the last couple of months, not from what you suggest, but from watching Phil's Secrets of the Short Game DVD. What he said just made sense to me and I've seen a lot less duffed chips, etc... since applying his techniques. Everytime I duff up a chip these days I feel is down to not commiting to the shot, rather than poor technique - the DVD has given me a lot of confidence and I would recommend it.

ive tried to but got so hung up on where i was during the shot i more often than not made a mess of the shot , so i go by feel (i call it),

instructions and me dont go well together, i find when i think too much i get in my own way on the course , tried lessons this year for the 1st time and stopped enjoying the game , back to the way i always played and im back enjoying it ..

Read the Pelz short game bible but found the clock face too rigid and seemed to take away any "natural" feel for the shot I had. I just trust my technique and my own hand eye co-ordination. The latter seems fine it is the technique that kills me!

As myself and Rooter mentioned we have both just read Dave Pelt "short game bible" book.
He advocates using the clockface drill.
In the book he tells how he collected thousands of hours of stats.
In the end he could basically tell how far shots would go just by watching his pupils swings.
Some of these pupils were tour pros.
Even though I had heard of this method a few years back,i had never incorporated it into my game.
I can safely say now im using it my short game has gone to a new level.
Im far from a pro,and far from a really good player, however my short game imo is that of
a lower handicap than mine currently.
Its certainly not for everyone, but with your handicap where it is,im sure you could be single
figures using the clockface drill.

Wow!! I have to agree with Homer.

I could do with more practice though on my own short game but I was never going to work our 3 or 4 different distances for each of my wedges + all the variations either. It does give people with no short game or poor short game a great place to start though.

I committed to it for a season, and other practice, and went from 12 to 7.

Not everyone's cup of tea - and I dropped the 7:30.

Distance control is probably my strength. Shame about the direction!

I'm not a slave to the system and use other techniques too. But it's worth trying.

Exactly, i posted in the other thread about it, its ok if you have a decent lie and no danger, but always good to have options. precision is key when you are getting closer to the pin.

Surely then this could be good or Homer.
He as said many times his short game is poor.
Even if you had 3 wedges and had 3 variations 9 different yardages, surely this is going to help.
I can see where Homers coming from on the "feel" front and to be honest this is what I was using.
However is it really "feel"or guessing. I felt for me I was guessing yardages a bit.

If Homer is struggling with his technique then it should help him a lot as it kinda walks you through the whole process pretty well if memory serves me.
I think it is a really good logical approach to the short game but just think to do it properly would take too much time and effort for me to work it all out.

Nice to see you playing well Tony and happy that your efforts are being rewarded. Keep it up mate.

Thx mate much appreciated

I use it and it works a treat. However you MUST swing to a full finish and once you have calculated the yardages and written them down, you have to trust them. They do work. It is a bit too mechanical for many, it does try to take feel out of the shot and like Foxholer I found the 7:30 position difficult, but it has improved my 100 yards and in game hugely.

So is this Pelz Short Game book worth a read?
I have a spare slot on my letter to Santa which needs filling

the pelz book is doing the rounds on the board. im waiting for it to drop in my letterbox. search the pelz book thread.

im going to give it a read and see what I think. not sure if I have the time over the winter to put things into practuce but wont rule anything out until I get a read of it.

Its quite a thick book mate, ive not plucked up the courage to read it yet but im getting there. If you remind me I will bring it to Formby and let you have a browse to see if its the sort of thing that would interest you.

Im gonna start reading over winter as im guessing wrong too much with the short game
