The all things EV chat thread

Likelihood v severity. Some consultants earn the money to afford mansions discussing these things in posh hotels.

At the end it is probably a wash.

BTW, how would a hydrogen fire be in comparison? ;-)

I guess with more and more EV appearing then there will be more EV/hybrid fires ( still proportionally lower than ICe )
Surely reducing the number of car fires by something like 95% fewer fires is to be celebrated. No argument that each one individually will cause more damage but the damage overall will be lower I would have thought.

Ironically hybrids are some of the worst. They have the ice components to have that ignition and then have the battery to cause havoc as opposed to ev which takes away that ignition cause

Also 700% increase in fires is such a misleading statement. If it was 1 fire before and now 7 that would be a 700% increase but 6 more fires doesn't sound as catchy

ICE car fires burn more fiercely than bicycle fires but, at some point, society had to make a risk vs benefit decision.

One thing ive personally never understood is motorcycles. Sure they look cool but you can bearly carry anything with you. The riders look like they will arrive with a bad back to their destination and most worrying if involved in a crash there is naff all to protect you

This whole thread is those for versus those against.

There's literally no in between :ROFLMAO: and therefore no discussion.

I'm against - bland cars for bland people.
Nope just making an effort to stop the misinformation

To be fair I want to make the point that hobbits post wasn't misinformation everything in it was correct I was just adding context of amount of fires compared etc

If you dont have one, why worry?

Fair play , is your congestion charge ending this year aswell? I couldn't do it, would be too worried with the state of other drivers in London these days

For what it's worth, I'm on the fence.
Torn between replacing my much loved Golf R (for reasons of practicality) with a boring new ICE estate/SUV or a boring new electric SUV.
All my preferred ICE cars have gone nuts for irritating and unnecessary touchscreens and haptic controls.
The electric cars I'm interested in are either too small in the back or just too expensive. And the electric drive experience still makes me feel like I'm going to lose my lunch.

The 'against' tends to be 1. depreciation, but, as I am learning, good monthly value if on a PCP type deal and you qualify for tax benefits, 2. convenience, which is me (no, not ready to change) and 3. they're damn ugly.

I will have one at some stage.

The claim was a 77% increase, which even if true reduces the ratio from 1/80 (ev/ice) to around 1/50.
