The all things EV chat thread

To be fair I want to make the point that hobbits post wasn't misinformation everything in it was correct I was just adding context of amount of fires compared etc
It surmises that because a EV battery is potentially harder to extinguish than an petrol fire the damage and inconvenience caused is greater.
Sorry but thats silly.

To be fair every firefighter I've ever met is overcautious because they see first hand the destruction of any fire

Ie don't charge your phone overnight , don't do your washing etc overnight or when your out

Any industry your close to you have strong opinions based on your experiences, I have many which I won't go into as they are boring as hell.

So naturally their comments will be harsher because they will be the ones running towards the situation rather than away from

Who are the experts when it comes to tackling fires ?

That wouldn’t be fireman by any chance would ? And you think their expertise and opinions is silly

The 'against' tends to be 1. depreciation, but, as I am learning, good monthly value if on a PCP type deal and you qualify for tax benefits, 2. convenience, which is me (no, not ready to change) and 3. they're damn ugly.

I will have one at some stage.

Not sure about them being ugly - a lot of the newer models look very nice and in many cases aren’t too much different from their ICE equivalent- the Audi e-tron an example

Is that the one that looks a little like one of those Lamborghini Urus ?

Someone at the golf club had one but changed it for a Skoda Envioq I think they are called - enjoyed the Lotus but little boot space
That's about right. No boot space 😳. Over 5m in length and no boot space 🤪. That's cock eyed.

Lovely two tone interior though 😍.

Rich man's toy though at those prices. The bloke at your club will have saved a bit by going to Skoda

That and not many cars increase in value, all cars deprecate. They have slowed now to similar to ice . However if someone is that worried about it either PCP and hand back or buy 2-3 years old and the majority of deprecation has already happened (IE vat gone and first few years is worst with any car)

Yes, some crackers out there to be fair. A few too many lights for me, but the amount of white Tesla on the road lives in my brain - the EV Mondeo of the 90's.

He goes through a new car every year but money never an issue - his other car is a Bentley SUV thing 😂

Good range on them, 350 miles supposedly, but it's still a rich man's toy.
Just had a look at some specs. 608 bhp 😃 350 range would be optimistic, but everyone make to much of a big deal about range. If youve got some spare cash go for it 😉

One thing ive personally never understood is motorcycles. Sure they look cool but you can bearly carry anything with you. The riders look like they will arrive with a bad back to their destination and most worrying if involved in a crash there is naff all to protect you

And a perfect example of owner’s choice. I rode for over 40 years, ‘76 to ‘15, from a little single cylinder Honda 125 up to big sports bikes. My last accident, a little nudge on a car in front of me in traffic when the clutch cable snapped was way back in 1980. Yes, even towards the end of my biking days I still, occasionally, rode it like I’d stole it.

We lived on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors for the latter years. I’d rather take a bike on those roads than a car, if I was out for a bit of pottering. Struggled to get the grand piano on the back of it though…

And I was just passing on the senior fire officer’s experiences. They’d rather attend an ICE fire than an EV fire.

I’ve had hybrids for the last 7.5 years and would have an EV if the infrastructure round here was better. I’m not anti-EV

Ha ha, not for me. I suspect with that type of power the range might drop before your eyes.

In my head, I tend to think most real life EV ranges drop by 20-25% from the claimed figures. Take that off 350 miles and it's still decent.

Take that car, reduce the size, reduce the power, it's a really nice car. I don't think Lotus will be interested in making my version though 😄

How is the uptake in Spain?

Scandinavia seems to be leading, I think UK is following that?
I didn’t see many in Germany or France, but PJ says France has plenty, might be a local thing.
