Or covering costs.

The review, an analysis of insurers’ figures up to 31 December 2022, reveals an industry insurance profit of $4.95 billion last year, up 42 percent on 2021’s $3.5 billion. The increase was largely driven by a 10 percent rise in gross written premium to $0.59 billion – on the back of higher premium prices. The growth in gross written premiums was evident across all classes of business, though largest in home, commercial motor, CTP motor, and employer’s liability insurance.

From KPMG.

"Covering costs" is a myth. They more than cover their costs even with the rises they were still due to make huge profits...

Again. Legalised theft.

Thats about as ugly as the Ssangyong Rodius, or Fiat Multipla.

Was reading an article today and it seems insurance for electirc cars is sky rocketing, if you can get it.
When I asked someone who knows a lot more about these things than I , or many here, the reply was its down to very poor knowledge base for repairs, the costs of electrical spares, and the very long lead times leading to extended hire car costs.
Wouldn't buy one, certainly not at just over £100k, but it's what they can give me while the 540i Touring they gave me as the original courtesy car is being fixed or they get me something else while my car is getting repaired. Having just had a look, the iX would be £100 less to insure than my current 8 series, so not sure what you have been reading and what it's based on.

I also just had a look at the i4 M50 insurance and it's £120 less than the 8er, this is looking like being my next car.

Wouldn't say it's as ugly as a Multipla, not sure any other car ever made is as ugly as that.

The thing that gets me about insurance companies is that they seem to believe they are entitled to make big profits every year.
As soon as some huge natural disaster occurs and they have to fork out loads, they immediately think it's ok to jack up premiums to cover their losses.
Don't they understand that they are effectively bookmakers, and should expect to occasionally suffer a loss?

I would, I think it's absolutely horrendous, closely followed by the Nissan Juke.
Just my honest opinion, but I think sprouts are awesome, so what do I know?

I mean, the iX is no looker but come on, this has to be the single worst automotive faux pas since the AMC Pacer of Wayne’s World fame.

Hey, I know you're not advocating the iX, sorry if it appeared as such.
It's just degrees of ugliness that we disagree on, not the ugliness in itself.

So as previously mentioned, “Would I buy an electric car?” is another no from me. Not that I haven’t looked but there still isn’t anything that ticks as many boxes as this does. Picked it up today and the smiles per miles is off the chart. I’m going to have a lot of fun with it even though I know the price of petrol might bankrupt me.

The multipla set the standard a generation ago. Chrysler had a good crack at it a few years later.

I think the BMWs look so generic BMW, there can’t be one which is distinctive more ugly than the others. The i3 looked different, but that’s cute. In a raking of way.

Hyundai is the one manufacturer who seems to do a different thing every time. I love the Tucson, I got used to seeing the ionic 5 by now,. Someone down the road has an ionic 6 on their driveway and it looks like it needs getting used to as well. Couldn’t see it from the back, but what I could see of the back from the side doesn’t look promising.

I don't think my 840 looks generic at all. In fact, I don't recall another BMW that looks like it either in the current or past line ups.

My M340i does, indeed, look like a multitude of 3 series though. But that's all about performance rather than looks.

The Ionic 6 looks like they made a promising start with the design at the front and by the back got bored so just stole the Porsche 911 Carrera design of old with a little bit of modern Taycan styling.

The best BMW was the 635 CSI.
The Ionic 6 just feels lke a toy inside it, with no room in the back.

The 850csi was also an interesting design.

The current 8 series has curves and lines you wouldn’t normally associate with typical BMW design, especially the back quarter panels on the Gran Coupe which flare out and around the wide tyres quite nicely.
