Just played a Scramble today - rubbish comp. Never liked them - too slow, manufactured ball positions and generally not proper golf at all. We've got another one in 2 weeks time - I think I'll go shopping with HID instead.

They're only supposed to be a bit of fun aren't they??? A chance for the men, women and junior to play a comp together - oh yes, and to see just how much of an advantage the women get from their forward tees......

I never take them seriously. I usually try all sorts of fancy shots and rely on the fact that the rest of my team will help me out if it doesn't come off. I basically use it as an on course practice session. Still has to be better than Sainsbury's on a Saturday

It's just a bit of fun. Get out there and enjoy it with your mates.

Your right, it's not real golf, but it can be good fun ;)

We play one big scramble some time around about a week before xmas which incorporates the years prize giving afterwards.

I dont mind playing in them once a year , you meet some new people and have a laugh without it being particularly serious.

Yep, it's all about having fun. We used to have one to start the season off, but that was hit on the head. Too many wingers wanting to play their own ball's. They should stay at home to play with their own balls.

Whilst I agree that they are a waste of time I do not agree with your comment.

Playing off 11 you are probably the best or 2nd best player in the team and the other 2 will look to you for guidance and help.

Suppose everyone adopted that attitude it would really be a fun competition.

You owe it to your fellow competitors to try. If you need to practice try the practice ground.

Okay I’ll be serious, I think it’s a great fun format. It’s good to get a more relaxed team game that can genuinely involve all types of players. I makes a change from the usual grind of medal or match play. I don’t play in many, but I sure look forward to them when I do.

I think there great fun we play in 2 a year ,you get a bit of banter if someone hasn't had a drive yet and your running out of holes, you don't have to take it to serious and normally the prizes are pretty good.

As a bit of fun, TS is a great format.

I used to play in one a year, and it gives higher h'cappers a great chance to play with better players, not against them. Even high h'cappers have the occasional great shot and the enjoyment that brings to everyone on the team is great. Yes the pressure is on the better players for the 2nd or third shot, but the high h'cappers can sufer a bit off the tee when the presure is on.

I find the format quite tactical as to who's drive you use off the tee, as the furthest shot from the better player, may not be the best one to use if the higher h'capper has got one on the fairway etc.

It's a bit of fun, not to be taken to seriously.

I used to be in the camp of my ball, my shot etc. But I've relaxed a bit about it all now.

Best fun you will have on a golf course is you and 3 of your mates playing in a Texas Scramble.

The format, banter and golf is what its all about. We usually have a few side bets and ribbing on the way which makes it more than interesting.

Lighten up and enjoy the day. Its a fun competition and thats what its ment to be.

I think they are great you have the banter with your mates and you have the chance to make a few birdies and have a score like the pros!! wouldnt want to play them every week but once in a while they are a great laugh to play IMO.

I don't mind scrambles but it seems we will be having team matches through most of winter, I don't mind them but would rather play a medal or stableford to try and get the handicap down.

Walked in after 7 yesterday, we where all soaked and due to been a scramble there didnt seem the point in getting further soaked just for it.

I don't mind it with a few mates where you can get some great banter going but these a drawn club events and I always seem to get the old dear, a random high handicapper and Mr once on month and never stay for a drink. Hardly rivetting company and its way too slow and so I lose interest quickly. I'll normally put my name down as a last resort and even then only if they are short.

I've played a few in my time and for the most part they're good fun. I always tried to get one of the higher handicappers to get one in play on the shorter par 4's so I could give it a lash and go for the green. Worked sometimes too.

parmo, given that at many clubs you won't get winter qualifiers why not play T/S?

we play one a season with the society, always seem popular and just as often it's the high-cappers shot that does the job.
