Forgetting for a second the wind, is there such a thing like an optimum teeing height for each club? Or is just matter of personal preference?

For example one of my playing partners (hc 10ish) says that in normal conditions one should tee for the driver with a tee as tall as the clubhead.

I don't like to tee the ball up too high even with the driver. About two inches I guess maybe an inch or just under for three wood. Half an inch for a hybrid and just the head showing for any irons off the tee.

its whatever works for you, sorry its not meant as a glib or flippant answer but dependent upon your swing and planned shot a high tee or low tee might be right, practice and use what works for you and is comfortable.

that is true to an extent certainly with the driver but there are some basic principles to follow. Teeing the driver too low will mean you cant hit the ball on the up and too high with a wood may mean you sky the ball when you don't get your swing on the right plane. I think if you tee the ball at an extreme height and make too many compensations to make it work it will be detrimental to your game.

One thing I often notice with the bad players I see is teeing the ball way too high for an iron. They don't trust the club to get the ball in the air so they tee it high and scoop under it with their wrists. When they get this right it can be a good shot but it is not a repeatable swing in my opinion.
