Start sheet or no start sheet?

Simple poll, would you rather be able to just rock up at the club, have a coffee and wait 15 mins on the putting green before teeing off or would you rather have to plan your golf 2 weeks (or however long your club decides) in advance, sit by a PC at a certain time to book your preferred time then pray the weather will be OK when the day comes?

Prefer to book. Makes it easier to plan etc...keeps work and the WO happy

Happy with the arrangements at our Club.

No start-sheets for friendly & social golf but clear info' re: Society bookings.

For comps we utilise the BRS online booking system with a three week period for members to enter.

God forbid that we should ever have to book for non-competition golf.

Much prefer to book, a young family and wife I need to know when I'm playing so can plan around it. Think we have a good balance as booking days are Tuesday & Friday to Sunday. So you can just rock up on the other days. Personally wouldn't join a club without a booking facility, suppose its just horses for courses.

Rocking up is the only way to go for social golf. I do like to have a booked tee time for the comps though. We have a good mix, no bookings normally but for comps the first two hours you can book a tee time, otherwise just roll up afterwards. I'm not sure I could go back to booking times.

It's booking at our place which is fine but do like the fiddles when you book in between 10 and 11 but then are drawn out with playing partner

We have to book at our place but its not always well received by some in the club. It becomes a massive phone call bun fight two weeks before.... We have a large group of us that play at 8.04 every Sat when no comps are on and 4 people all call in at the same time to get tees. Its a bit un civilised in my opinion but its nice to know things are organised in advance for me.

Rock up for me

They introduced half a system at our place this year, you can book times from 11am onwards. So if you want to just rock up, get there relatively early, if you want a guaranteed tee time then you need to wait until later

Not too fussed either way as by not having a tee time you can just get a game with anyone. Playing in the same four ball every week just isn't for me!

second club got to book tee time but happy with that as a bit of a drive then least I know what time im off

Booking for comps fair enough.

Booking for a bounce game is insane.

You can do both at my club i.e. you can book in advance but only half the slots can be booked. Every 2nd time is left open for rocking up.

Need to book a time slot for big comps during the summer but other than that you can do either or. Plus we have 2 courses so even at weekends and with comps you can still rock up and play.

We're the same as this works well as far as I'm Concerned.

Can think of nothing worse than just turning up and waiting for a tee time. Come the day if we don't fancy it - think that's happened once due to torrential rain all morning - we cancel it. Only exception was over summer if we decided to get a spur of the moment quick nine in early evening then we'd just turn up. We've both got a week off next month and golf will be booked in everyday at a time to suit us and I'll be booking it a week in advance.

Think we have it pretty well set up. On comp days, you can enter in the pro shop and get a drawn time within an 8.00-10.00 window so different times and partners within that slot. If you want, you can then enter on the day and go out as a roll up but its subject to waiting on the tee and there is no priority given to roll up comp entrants over social golfers.

On non comp days, we have no pre-booked times so turn up and go out. Members tend to know when big roll ups go out and there is the option of going out via the 10th but in most cases the wait isn't too bad. There is the option to go to the clubhouse for a coffee or loitering on the putting green and in the warm up nets. I love the fact that I can rock up in the summer after work and not worry about having to have pre-booked anything in advance.

I really don't think I can be doing with pre-booked time and I would have to seriously consider whether I can put up with the hassle and inconvenience if I wanted to change clubs or join another

There are booking sheets for all comps but if there is nothing on you can turn up and take your chance.
At our place there is generally someone else looking for a game.

Why's it a hassle if you have to book? If you know you want to play golf on say next Saturday what's the problem with booking it in advance
