Why's it a hassle if you have to book? If you know you want to play golf on say next Saturday what's the problem with booking it in advance:confused:

True but what about those spur of the moment rounds after work, or if you finish early. What about getting a time because you have another commitment after golf. If you can't get a booking time to fit into that does it mean you have to can the golf?

What if you don't know if you can make it, for example due to work? So you book a time then cancel it on the day which may deprive someone else as they thought they couldn't get a time so arranged to do something else instead?

We only book if we know we can make it. Perhaps others might book and not know if they'll go but then as you can book online from 8.00am or ring the proshop on the day to see what is available it works well. If members book and don't cancel they have the privilege of prebooking taken off them for a while.

Again not had a problem as all available slots are never booked out for the whole day. Like now, I can still book a time for tomorrow, Saturday or Sunday. As I say over summer we'd quite often decide on a spur of the moment game and think we only had to wait once.

So......why do you need a booking sheet then?

We used to have a "rock up" approach to tee times (I am guessing you mean social golf), but have since gone to a tee-booking system, and it is a whole lot better. No more turning up and having to wait for ages to go off...you know your slot and can plan accordingly.

There are times when you can just rock up, and if there is a free tee slot, then the pro shop will book it out to you, so it is the best of both worlds in a sense, but the tee booking system is the future.

For comps, it is all booked, so you know your time....I just wish they could open this online, so you could sign into competitions from home without having to go up to the club!

You must lead an extremely organised life :ears:

What happens if the game in front takes 10 minutes longer to complete their round than planned?

I try to be organised yet slow play on the golf course doesn't bother me as I'm just glad to be out there playing golf:whoo:

As the majority of my Golf is fitted in around work during the week it's vital that I can book a specific time, knowing(ish) that we'll be round within 3 1/2 hours so I can book someone in 4 1/2 hours after I start....if that makes sense.
For our Friday games we always book 8.50
This is late enough so the School run can be done if necessary and early enough that I can book someone in from 1.30/2pm.
If we had no booking times we might turn up and not be able to go out until 9.30 - that cuts things a bit tight, especially as with more people on the course in front of us play is likely to be much slower.
During the week the course is only busy until 10.30/11 anyway so if I have an early lesson I know I don't need to book for a 11.30/12 start. I can just turn up and go.
Weekends are a bit busier but after 12 you can virtually walk on.
Booking just makes it easier for me, Fragger and CVG as we all tend to work either before or after a game..

I voted no, however we do have a start sheet for 90 minutes on a Sunday morning, I do use this regularly. That's the only one we have and I wouldn't want any more

Having been a member at clubs with both systems I can definitely say I much prefer the no booking system. There's nothing worse than waking up on a beautiful morning that you are unexpectedly free and not being able to get out on your own course because you should have known this and booked a week ago. My present club operates a no booking system and I wouldn't play anywhere that did otherwise now.

If I had decided to go play at my club this morning around 10 I would have driven 25 minutes to get there to find out that there was a junior open day on which meant the tee was booked until 12. Had a look a the sheet on the web (we use BRS) and could see there was no point in standing around for roughly two hours. any time sfter that is free so I know I can head over and play if I wanted to. Surely that is the benefit of having the online booking.

Those that say the would leave a club if it was introduced I would ask why

The thing is, we have a no booking system BUT all the comps (juniors ladies etc) and all the society bookings are advertised on the members section of the website and on the dirty big board bang outside the changing room so unless you are a computer luddite or car park golfer never using the locker room (yes I am joking) there is no excuse for never knowing and rocking up and not getting out. Even with midweek roll ups, there is the 10th you can go out on and so plenty of options.

You don't need a tee booking system for that, just a bit of communication.

Do you not have a diary which tells you when these events are on? We have a diary that tells you every thing that's booked in that year. I know when the un-official roll ups are on so no problem there. It gets a little busy some times at weekends, but I've never had to wait more than half an hour. I do enjoy the freedom with not having to book and plan all the time, being self employed and only 10 minutes from the course, it benefits far out weigh a booking system.

We do have to book for comps, this sheet goes live on HDID 2 weeks prior to the comp and that can be a bit of a lottery if you don't get in quick.

We book for comps but dont need to book normally, the benefit of having the sheet online is I can have a look to see if the course is busy or not before I go let SWMBO know how long I should be away for before I go. But I do see why booking sheets are the devils work right enough.
