This sort of thing probably should go in the "random irritations" thread but think it's a big enough discussion to warrant it's own.

Does anyone think the standard of driving is just getting worse at an alarming rate? I've only been driving 10 years but the last few months i have seen some shockers from other drivers, most of which is dangerous. Things like not indicating on junctions entering minor roads, indicating on roundabouts - because we are expected to be able to read minds?

Then there's not knowing whose right of way it is, this one really grinds my gears... drivers who speed up and pull out around parked cars on their side of the road to avoid giving me priority which is rightfully mine. I've decided in this case that i'm going and if they clip my car then it's their fault.

Anything about driving or any stories like this wind you up?

How long until this thread becomes about people who don’t understand that you can and should use the right lane on a merge in turn? 😁
I don't think anyone disputes that.

Agree driving standards are shocking. I commute 80 miles a day and hold ups due to accidents are very common. Tailgating, poor lane discipline, using mobiles etc etc. I would guess that 90% of the accidents that hold me up are easily avoidable.

Causing a collision is clearly the best method of upping the standard of driving! ;)

Not so much a standard of driving thing but just a way they drive in rural Spain. Specifically, you've got a car some distance in front of you and he sees his mate coming towards him. Out comes the arm and he flags his mate down, then starts a 5 min conversation. Toot your horn if you want, and he'll smile and wave back to you but he ain't moving till he's done. Used to drive me nuts but now I just smile and wait for him to finish.

Similarly in the queue in the village shop. First person in the queue is having a conversation with the person on the till. Occasionally the second person joins in the conversation. Sometimes the person who has just been served will stay and carry on the conversation with the shop owner and another person in the queue. Used to drive me nuts but now I'm guilty of joining in, in broken Spanish, with whoever wants a chat.

Seriously, if you want to rush through life, rural Spain isn't the place for you - I love it.

Was going to put a whole list of stuff in the random irritations thread, but since you've started this I'll bung it on ere'.

Drivers who leave a massive gap between them and the car in front, then floor it when the lights change. I'd love to give em a good kick right where it hurts!

Last second indicators, almost as if it's an after thought.

People who are clueless what to do on a mini roundabout, had one the other day where three women sat looking at each other for about 30 seconds before one of them eventually decided to go after a long horn blast. Absolutely useless %*&£!s

People who cut in when they have absolutely no right to... death penalty is too good for em!

...........and breathe.

People who don’t use slip roads to get up to a safe speed to merge in with the traffic already on the motorway..

People who push and push from behind when there is no where to go, example your on the north circular in 2 lane bits and inside lane people are doing 40 , (limit of 50) so your legally overtaking (there isn’t a chance to get back over because the traffic is that deep) and you have say 5 cars in front doing the same but no they want to push.. where you off to? A secret lane?

drivers who, despite the queue of traffic on the inside lane of a motorway to take the next junction drive as far as they can, then decided to try and push in at the last moment

drivers on a motorway who indicate and move out (from inside to middle or middle to outside lanes) at the same time so you have to hit the brakes as they ain't stopping.

Does anyone actually know what the rule is here? & how blame would be apportioned if there was a incident?
I've asked around in several quarters but have never heard anything conclusive, so it's not surprising that diffident drivers are over cautious. I tend to insistent on my 'rights' as I understand them & have a Dash-cam to back them up, if needed.

Parents stopping on either zig-zag or the actual zebra crossing to drop off their little darlings outside schools. This really winds me up as it's so dangerous for other kid. I now use my dash-cam footage and report them. Am I being a snitch? Does anyone else do this? Reporting I mean.

I'd say 'Well done'..... would be good if the school had a section on their Web-site to publish such selfish acts..... no need to name... just display such!! Hahaha
