SPOTY

Isn’t it the public vote?
If so then it’s hardly surprising for a mainstream coach to win it 🤷‍♂️

Southgate took an unfancied, unloved England side at the biggest sporting event in the world further than almost anyone expected, whilst at the same time making the public respect their national team again from the absolute pits of the last 20 years, all whilst acting with the utmost dignity in an increasingly undignified sport.

Our national sport.

Give me that over a coach leading a team in a minority sport to a minor title any time.

Mental that Fury (and O'Sullivan to be fair) didn't even get nominated, and even more mental that Kane came 3rd. Fury completed an incredible comeback in 2018 after overcoming huge adversity becoming a vocal example of how mental illness can be overcome with the comeback culminating in a beautiful boxing performance against one of the scariest punchers in Boxing history in a fight a large majority think he won. How that isn't worthy of a nomination I don't know. SPOTY is and will continue to be an utter farce with huge bias towards certain sports, it's a joke. Unless you're Anthony Joshua, no combat sport athlete is getting nominated, and Fury not making the list is even more shocking than Michael Bisping not even getting a nomination in 2016.

Fury hasn’t done anything. A couple of wins against nobodies and a draw shouldn’t get you a spoty nomination!

Can't believe all the negative comments here! It's been a great year for sport in this Country - what has everybody been watching?

I think the reason why Boxing wasn't nominated is because of pay to view. Only die hard boxing fans pay for it.

Gareth Southgate getting the Coach award was worthy - not once in his speech did he mention himself, it was all about his players, team and the fans. In fact all his interviews are inspiring and think that he has surprised a lot of people.

The best speech of the evening came from Billy Jean King - you couldn't hear a pin drop in the audience, truly inspiring.

I didn't agree with the winner, would have preferred Dina Asher Smith by a long way.

Why would anyone want to nominate a combat sport in these politically correct days? If anyone else deserved to be nominated then young Billy Monger stands head and shoulders above Fury.
