I'm sick to death of the wife whining on about her mobile phone being useless, no signal really. It's not bonkers old Motorola something or other. It did slow down badly but I did a factory reset and that sorted it. But in Budapest it was only getting 2G, who knew that was still a thing. Sometimes nothing. Even now we are back it still isn't very good. Why? I'm on a Motorola with Android 15 and mine was fine 4G everywhere no problem.
So my question is Xmas is coming up and I'm gonna get her a decent phone. Now don't start on the xxxx brand and £500+, coz that's not who we are. Any suggestions ?

Lots of cheapy brand new ones on EBAY.

As you are probably aware it is about making sure it is 4g (2g and some 3g will be turned off if has not already gone) and has a fairly recent version of Android as a lot cannot be downloaded on the play store if the system is too old (e.g. My TV will work from a phone and LG says Android 6 or newer but I could not download the app on either my bedside or back up phone (android 8 and android 11 from memory).

This caught my eye when looking recently

I'd have a look at something like that Samsung A17 5G, good brand and not bad specs from a budget phone. Can be picked up for under £200 brand new. I think they also do a 4G version (the A16) which is under £150.00. Honor and OPPO make pretty decent budget handsets that are 5G ready and for under £200.00.

When I was an Android user the Samsung Galaxy A(whatever number) in the £100-£200 range was always perfectly adequate for use as a phone and mini-computer.
I'd still be happy with one now if I wasn't stuck with a car that only talks to an iPhone.

Me and the Mrs have had Motorola G series phones for years..I'm on the G50 and it's well into it's 3rd year with no issues.
Plenty of space, easy to use...perfect for me...

Agreed. I have the A56 at the moment, and it only costs me £27 a month on O2. Before that I had the A54, and I'm sure my next phone will be the Galaxy A-something as well. 😁 They just work.
