SPOTY 2025

No I wouldn’t. He still has to drive the car and beat what’s in front of him. You could argue the same for Rory and his team of coaches, trainers, caddy etc. he still had to. Swing the club like Lando has to drive the car.

Couldn’t care less who won ultimately as it’s a non entity of an award from a broadcaster that has no decent free to air sport so it’s very much an irrelevance these days.
But the car makes a huge difference, much more than a golf club or a tennis racquet.

I know individual sports people have lots of people around them. That being said, if I caddy for McIlroy, he'll still be one of the best golfers in the world. Whereas if I designed Norris's car, every single person in this forum would beat him hands down in a Vauxhall Corsa

He still has to drive that car and beat one of the greatest drivers there has been in the modern era.

I couldn’t care less though like I said Rory won Yay 🙌. Swiftly moving on with things that I’m bothered about like watching paint dry 🤣

103 posts on an irrelevant programme that nobody is going to watch or care about broadcast by a company which has no interest in sport or any relevance to it.
Seems a bit odd.

……..104 now.

But, everyone has been saying the Red Bull car is shocking compared to McClaren. Which would imply if the cars were equal, Max would win hands down.

So, sort of implies the car is important, and the team behind that car

Bit different if it was Indycar I suppose, where the cars are equal.

In fairness, I think there were more posts on a thread about how people don't care whether an airplane could take off on a treadmill :ROFLMAO:

I really don’t care! Mr Blobby could win it for I care, the award is an irrelevance from a broadcaster that doesn’t broadcast any decent live sports for anyone to watch. Based on that alone I don’t believe any relevance in their trying to claim this to be a big thing anymore.

Doesn’t matter what defence or comeback I get I stand by my opinion so will leave it at that 👌

Apologies.

I only initially replied to your detailed post because I thought you were expressing a genuine opinion on sporting achievement, and how you felt that should only really apply to those who play an individual sport. I thought the sport of Formula 1 introduced a more cloudy difference between individual and team.

What I wasn't aware of was that you were simply giving us a lengthy explanation as to why you don't care about SPOTY. And that you were not overly serious in your opinion that an F1 driver would be valid contender based on sporting achievement (I personally wouldn't give the award to Mr Blobby, for example)

It would have probably just been easier to simply say the reward is irrelevant. I'd certainly largely agree, it has nowhere near the prestige it once had. It is nothing more than a token gesture these days
