I know your not a fan of the national team but even though we didn't play any decent teams and Southgate made some mistakes most notably persisting with Sterling he did get us to the semis , after all the dross of the last few tournaments this time it gave football a great lift in England and gave people old and young a lot of pleasure.

So for that reason I'm ok with him getting the award.

Agreed. Brought us some hope, excitement, pride and respect. He's an incredibly professional guy who is a credit to us. Old fashioned attributes which are a pleasure to see - especially in the modern game of football!

His team didnt win - there are coaches out there that have their team or individual actually win something , he is a nice guy and does thinks nicely but coach of the year - nah , sympathy win imo
 
SPOTY has not been the same since they started selling tickets to the public. Before that it was all faces of top sports stars, now it just seems to be a case of how big an arena can they shoehorn it into. It may pay for the event but that's not the point.

Lots of people on Twitter highlighting how the beeb seem to be treating the viewer as if they are thick and know nothing about sport.
 
No issue with the awards to Billy Monger, Billy Jean (powerful speech) and Molinari. Southgate's I can understand given we haven't been to a semi since 1990 and we played with a pride and passion rarely seen at a major tournament by an England side. There are coaches that have won thing but a lot are in minority sports and so will never feature.
 
Always touching to see the list of people sadly no longer with us - some were so young as well :cry:

Chuffed for Thomas but shame that Asher Smith wasn’t in the Top 3 ahead of Kane ( who won nothing )
