SPOTY

Mainstream stuff only now I guess. Outside golf my sporting interest involves Speedway and Moto GP.
Speedway is a declining sport now however they could have made mention of Britain’s Tai Woffinden winning the world championship for the 3rd time, and the passing of 2 big names from the past, Ronnie Moore and Ivan Mauger.

Just outta interest, me and me playing partners were on about the SPOTY nominees that were up for the award. How were they picked again. We were reeling a few off, eg Anthony Joshua and cannot believe he was not mentioned. Has the format changed for who we can vote for. It was also suggested on course that some of the nominees were a bit PC and not worthy of nomination. Thoughts please.

They explained on the night how they were chosen which according to wikipedia is 'by an an expert panel. The panel produces a shortlist that reflects UK sporting achievements on the national and/or international stage, represents the breadth and depth of UK sports and takes into account ‘impact’ within and beyond the sport or sporting achievement in question

You will never please everyone as people will have their particular favourites. I personally thought each one was worthy of a nomination and not sure which ones could be seen as being there down to 'PC 'and not because they have met the previously mentioned criteria? Please tell? There may well be others that people could argue have met that criteria as well, but that does not mean anyone on the final shortlist is there down to PC.

I think the PC comment was because in the past there may of been 10 nominations. Now it is 6. Because in the PC world we have to have a
“ fair” representation. Others missed out. As you say. You cannot please everyone.

Don't understand that logic as you would think that a larger list would ensure more people are on it. Leading to more opportunity to include people purely as it is seems to be 'politically correct. So a longer list would allow you to include more minority entries who are typically underrepresented at the pinnacle of sporting achievement. Such as black women. Or Spurs players.
