SPOTY - That time of year again!

I guess she played well (to the best of my memory) but why has she been singled out over the other players? Because she kicked off about shops not selling her goalie top as well?
Because she has been excellent, and presumably the stand out player in English women's football for that reason.

I'm sure her comments about not selling her goalie top had nothing to do with it. That being said, it only became a big story pre tournament because she was already such a big player for England. And it probably became a bigger story afterwards because of her very good performances.

I don't think she kicked off rather than the fans did and it then got media attention. She stands out in her position in women's football I'd say but I always struggle if a member of a successful team wins the individual award. Team of the Year is better for that imo.

They didn't actually win it though, they came 2nd, so that rules them out for team of the year in my book. She did win the golden glove award for best keeper though, so there's that.

I guess it really is a sparse list this year. I can't even think of an obvious winner off the top of my head, whereas most years you probably can. Looking at the list now... did Frankie Dettori not retire like 15 years ago!? McIlroy seems tenous when he only contributed to a good team win but didn't get over his major drought or anything. Won just one solo event.

Have to agree. Dettori??!! Really? Broad...well I'm sure he's had better seasons so because he retires...it's all a bit weak.

Guessing Dettori is effectively a lifetime achievement award as he has now retired from racing in the UK and is having a last hurrah in the states. Not a follower of racing but I understand that he has had an excellent year though.

Maybe this was the year that Bob Nudd should finally have been nominated (one for the conspiracy theories out there).

I don't follow athletics closely these days, but Josh Kerr is the World 1500m champion, having beaten the hot favourite Jakob Ingebritsen in a thrilling final shown on the BBC. I would have thought that would be enough to warrant a nomination. I do follow horse racing and Frankie Dettori conned the public into thinking he was retiring when he isn't. He rode 30 winners this year (the Champion Jockey William Buick rode 131). His nomination is clearly due to the 'personality' side of the event rather than the achievement.

I don't watch it nowadays, not even sure why I posted :)

Josh Kerr is a great shout, why isn't he in?
When was the last time we had a 1500m world champion, a superb achievement!
