SPOTY - That time of year again!

I voted for Eve. She's been at the top of her sport for a long time. A sport that won't pay her that much if at all. The true olympian spirit.

Watching the segment on her you don’t realise how much hard work she had to put in and the injuries as well

Rob Burrow getting the Helen Rollason Award

Just unreal strength to keep battling and great to see Kevin Sinfield being highlighted - raising £7mil is staggering , really hope they find a breakthrough for such an awful illness
?

And brilliant to see Kevin Sinfield getting an award ?????

Yeah that’s me gone ?

Can people not have a debate or discussion and challenge other peoples point of view anymore ?‍♂️ - it’s not about right and wrong

You need to be telling yourself that, Phil, not me.

I have just taken a six month break from this forum. Not because of you, I hasten to add. We’ve had some good, lively discussions. But I got absolutely sick and tired of people always having to have the last word, very often ridiculing and belittling the opinions of others in order to do so.

I’ll hold my hand up and accept that I have had my moments. Most of us have, if we’re honest. But those moments become very tiresome for everyone else. My hiatus didn’t just give me a breather from the pettiness here, it also gave others a break from me! Others perhaps need to take a step back and understand how they are perceived by others. Just a thought.

As for SPOTY? Ben Stokes, all day long. Together with the coach he has taken a dreadful England red ball cricket set up and, in less than a year, completely transformed the game. I doubted him. I won’t lie. But he has been a breath of fresh air. Joe Root and Chris Silverwood must feel rather silly.

Trust me my intention was never to ridicule or belittle you in anyway and apologise if it came across that way - it felt like decent good nature discussion

Onto the three main winners - fully deserved , been a huge year for Ladies Football

Excellent this year - the tributes just give me a lump in my throat and lots of good highlights of the big british achievements

Didn’t feel belittled at all mate, so no need to apologise - I was making a wider point regarding my recent break which didn’t necessarily refer to you.

Can’t comment on SPOTY any further - United are on Sky Sports ?

As expected, blubbed at the piece on those we lost this year.

There's always a couple who clearly died young - John Paul, 28 year old cyclist. A new name to me - so sad.
And what a perfect soundtrack with the passing of Christine Mcvie so recently. It seems some dust may have got in my eye...

I thought overall it was a good show this year.
Let's not forget there is such a diverse range of sports now - women's football, cricket, rugby, wheelchair and disability groups, there's a lot to cram in compared to 80's and 90's.
I did feel a bit sorry for Ben Stokes, his runner up award that was rushed, a bit embarrassing.

Stokes came across as a bit ungrateful.
