I see the shortlist has been upped to 12 from 10, due to such a successful year and will be announced on 26 nov. on the one show.
Any suggestions for the 12?
Jess Ennis must be in with a shot of winning.

Bradley Wiggins a decent favourite, others on short list will include Mo Farah, Andy Murray, Jess Ennis, David Weir, Ellie Simmonds, Chris Hoy and Ben Ainslie. After that it depends on whether they fill the list up with other gold medallists or look to other sports, if they do the latter then McIlroy should get a nomination.

The winner almost certainly comes out of Wiggins, Murray, Ennis and Farah, personally think it will be Wiggins but wouldnt be shocked at any of the other 3

Bradley Wiggins if it were for " Sports person of the year" as it's for "personality" I guess Jessica Ennis.

Agree with that, I'm full of respect for his achievements, but I'm not a band wagon jumper in terms of thinking he is a top bloke. Always found him to be lacking in anything close to personality or manners.

Mo Farah would be a good shout tbh, I enjoyed his 2 races alongside my kids more than any of the other achievements. He was awesome on 'The Cube' aswell :p

Bare in mind his background, what he has achieved & sacrificed (I know the others also have), for me he is what its all about.

If personality has anything to do with it, then that young lady boxer from Leeds,(Nicola Adams?) gets my vote.
I thought she was a breath of fresh air, and that Ali shuffle was pure class..

I think David Weir is the stand out candidate but I think the top 3 will be Wiggins, Murray and Farah.

Jess Ennis - dealing with all that pressure (face of the games, a very pretty one at that) and then delivering.... very rare of a british track and field athlete!!
Andy Murray - Grand slam winner, olympic gold and silver. That is above BW imo.
Mo Farah - definitely the personality aspect, dont think many people expected two golds from him.

My three choices. However i seem to remember betting on a certain Jenson Button one year and an old decrepid footballer stole it!!!!!!!

Not Wiggins for me, great achievement but as far as TDF is concerned it was a team effort to ensure he won.

Jess Ennis for her performance after the pressure of being poster girl for the games or Andy Murray for his gold and US Open win.

McIlroy had an awesome year but won't win enough votes from the public I reckon. The only thing he could have done to better this year really was to win 2 majors this year.

I don't really take any notice of it anymore, it lost its appeal a couple of years ago for me. I wouldn't trust the BBC with anything anymore.

Got Bradley at 18 to 1 at the start of the year. As for once my predictions of what he would do were exactly spot on. Only slight spanner in the works is the whole Lance Armstrong, they are all on drugs debacle. But come on Brad, so it for cycling and also my golf ball fund.

You can't win the TDF without a team (unless your name is Cadel Evans...), but it is still a huge individual achievement. Wiggins won it in the time trials remember, which is the ultimate individual event.
It wasn't just the TDF he won either, he had an historic year in cycling, winning the paris-nice, criterium du dauphine and the tour de romandie, all prestigious 1 week stage races. That has never been done before.
There is also the small matter of a dominant victory in the Olympic time trial, so he's got a gold medal (his 4th) too.

All of this is the first time it's been done by a brit, in a sport that we historically have been also rans against the might of the US and continental europe.

For me he is the stand out candidate, though I suspect he won't win it due to Olympic hysteria about Ennis.
(If she'd competed in the hurdles, which she entered and then withdrew, and won that too then she would be a more worthy candidate imo).

Farah could sneek it too.

Mcilroy is good for a nomination but he won't win.
