I think the comparison between footballers and golfers is about as far removed as possible. Footballers are egotistical money grabbers (in general, there are some that actually put back into the sport too) who don't care that there every move is watched and copied by kids. You watch a kids Sundamy morning match at under 7 level and see how many spit just because they have seen it on the telly.

Golf is played under a completely differenct set of standards whereby each golfer is responsible for their actions on course (calling infringements on themselves etc). Why then is there a need for our role models in the sport to lower the tone by spitting especially when they can see there is a dirty great camera lens in front of them.

I wouldn't be bothered if they cut to a golfer walking up to a green or tee box and quietly spitting to one side which is then picked up from a distance but the way Woods just did it in full viuew is not on.

Go Benny Go,

I'm glad to see someone else on this forum standing up for people's right's. If I want to spit it out I will. Dont get me wrong, I wont do it in ur face but I will spit. I have seen people holding 1 side of their nose and blowing hard, now do you guys think thats ok?

We're all human if we need to spit let us spit! If Tiger need's a sH*t, let him Sh*t.

Those people on here who find spitting bad for the face of the game need to get a life.
RANT over

No Smange I haven't had any guinness yet!!!!!!!!!!

I sometimes despair of the calibre of contributor on this forum

I think some people need to lighten up a bit. It’s not pretty to see, but it doesn’t really hurt anything. Does it?

If I were to change something about players behavior on course, it would be throwing clubs at their bag / stamping them on the floor or swearing. Not that either bother me personally, but I wouldn’t like to teach any watching children to do it.

I quite often get a bit of a sticky throat on the course – if its gag on it or spit, there’s only one option. I do it out of view if possible (e.g. Walk off into the rough).

I think it’s a shame that golf is full of so many people that look for anything to moan about. I cant imagine how stressed some of you would get at the supermarket or while driving…

Who gives one about spitting, if I was playing with someone who found it offensive then I would be more worried I was playing with them in the first place.

In most sports people spit to clear airwaves, if you have just walked up a slope and need to clear your throat I would of thought it best to spit rather than swollow flem, mind you some people dream of being of higher breed because they play golf others just love the game not the crap that goes with it.

I think that we might fall out over this one.....

"Who gives one about spitting"

I do. It's a disgusting and un-necessary habit.

"if I was playing with someone who found it offensive then I would be more worried I was playing with them in the first place."

So you think that if I object to you wanting to hack and gob whenever you feel you want to, then there is something that should worry you about ME???

"if you have just walked up a slope and need to clear your throat I would of thought it best to spit rather than swollow flem"

If after walking up a slope you have sufficient flem to consider sharing it with following golfers then you should consult a doctor as it might be systomatic of an underlying disorder which the following golfers might not appreciate sharing.

"mind you some people dream of being of higher breed because they play golf others just love the game not the crap that goes with it."

So are you saying that you are a lower breed because that the crap that goes with your game includes gobbing when and wherever you feel it necessary?

Don't get me wrong. If a flying insect goes into my mouth I, like anyone else, will hack it up and get rid of it. If I have any other problems, like a cold, then I carry tissues or a handerchief to sneeze/clear my throat into.

There again, I was brought up at least a generation before you. What did our generation know and learn? TB was nearly eradicated.....
