...........and left yourself 50 yards to the flag which is on a receptive green.
Flat calm, no obstacles, plenty of green to work with and a good lie on the fairway.
How do you play the shot?

Which club, grip, length of swing etc

54 degree wedge , gripped down a little , prob a half swing looking to land it around 20 ft short hoping it lands hops forward and stops. A pitch and little run type of shot

What type of course?

Links: PW, half way down grip, ball slightly back in stance, 1/4 swing, run it on the green.
Elsewhere: 52* wedge, half way down grip, 1/2 swing, pitching on the front of green (I love this shot and can play it well between 50 & 70 yards)

56° wedge off the back foot with hands well forward. Half length(ish) swing probably, but never consider this. Just look at the shot and imagine it. Two hops and will stop.

Because the green is receptive I would take my 58 and use my 7.30 swing and pitch it pin high and stop it dead.

This is a shot I practice a lot so would be confident of being close, however I have seen people bump and run to good effect also.

I suppose it comes down to what your confident with and how you have practiced the shot.

I suspect there is no right answer just the shot that gets the result.

Either a full 52 wedge and throw it high which ought to stop or a half PW that will run out a bit depending on how confident I am feeling to hit the 52.

Probably sand wedge and punch it in low.

Not sure on length of swing, until it was in front of me, and would practise swing looking at hole then decide on very low flight or slight higher and tempo on swing.

To those of you who would land it short of the green and run it up.....is there any reason why you wouldn't prefer to land it on the green?

Depending on how I saw it and how my wedge play was going, first choice would be a half 56. Second choice a bump and run 8i
