So you've duffed your second shot..........

58 degree wedge, I play this slightly forward in my stance which is narrow and slightly open.

Its about hands at 9ish with wrist hinge and look to use the bounce, I've been practicing pitching a fair bit lately so pretty confident on these shots.

As I've duffed my 2nd and now nervous of messing up 3rd, 8 or 9 iron low and into the green, go to shot and 99 times out of 100 more confident than with wedge.
If it was a par 5 and 2nd shot had been good and left me same shot into green I'd probably use 52 or 56 degree wedge as different mind set coming from 2nd shot.

Sand wedge. Throw it onto the green and allow it to run out to the pin. Firmness of the green will determine how far on to land it. At that range it's a feel shot for me but probably no more than a half swing.

To be honest id prob knife it straight through the green and be left a tricky chip back.. Although in my head I would play a very pretty high flying shot with my 58..
This has happened too much so now days I try to bump and run a lot in with my irons

8 iron pitch to the edge of the green, maybe fringe and let it run out. More room for error the lower to the ground the shot is played in my book. :)

I'd hit one of those semi-thin type wedge shots with my 52 (half swing, gripping down an inch) that look ok to everyone else but secretly my heart would be in my mouth hoping its got some of that skiddy spin on it that makes it check up. When it stops about 10ft past i'll take the plaudits as though I meant it.

Exactly the same as this.

receptive green - half swing with 52*, ball forward in stance, weight forward, gripped down a little, accelerate through and go for some check and run out 10ft from flag.

In reality however, I blade it 50 yrds through the green.

Or fat it.

Again.

It doesn't matter how receptive it is, I still wont spin the ball. Soooooo, Down the shaft on a 9 iron, possibly pw, land it short or maybe just on and let it roll up to the pin. The shot will be punched rather than thrown up in the air.

for me the shot would be played with my wedge as most of my short game work is .
the shot i would be looking to play would be to land the ball on the front of the green and let it run out.
i wouldnt be looking to put spin or check on the ball and would use what i call dead hands ,by this i mean im just hitting it with a square face and just nipping it off the turf with the ball more on my front foot than back foot, just in front of middle of stance.

I was playing with some new golfers recently who kept going over the back. I suggested landing on the front and the guy stuck the next one to 10ftish.

50 yards is a 1/2 52*, it will check so I expect it to come up short but not by a huge amount.
