So What happened after I snapped my 5 wood at the range?

Well on Thursday night I accidentally broke my 5 wood shaft while at the range.

I talked to the pro and he talked me into getting my woods custom fitted for the shaft.

Ended up with a studio 64 and a studio 74 in the driver and 5 wood respectively.

The shafts are much stiffer than the stock regular shaft I had before and are both cut down a little shorter to help me find the middle of the face more.

I gave them a whirl on the course and promptly bombed my 1st drive 298 yards on the first, had a 2 club wind helping but it is still a little uphill!

All the rest of the drives were good to average after that.

To conclude I was surprised how much of an effect the shaft had on my game. I found the fairway or just missed it on most drives, even the bad ones went a long way.

The 5 wood is just as good, it gets up in the air so much more easily now.

Very happy for the price, 90 a club for those shafts and a custom fit for free. The down side is now I want to take my new MP-52s down to get fitted too bye bye money!

Getting the correct shaft is the most important thing.I had a Cobra driver years back that I bombed but snapped the shaft in a fit of temper,sadly the shaft that was in it was discontinued so a different one had to put in to replace it and I struggled with it in comparison to the previous shaft.

every cloud has a silver lining and all that,nice to hear your booming the drives.
Ive never been one to look into shafts, lofts etc etc till i started to read this forum.
Maybe time i had a talk to a pro and get mine looked at, although im still thinking about going back to a Ping G2 which is quite possibly the greatest driver ive ever owned (stolen along with the rest of my clubs about 5-6 years ago)

Didn't before but I understand those points now!

The fitter said to me it was a classic case of the right head, wrong shaft for the player. The draw bias gives me a great shot but I cannot find the middle of the club often enough as the shaft was too long and too whippy.

The Matrix studio 64 is aimed at the better senior golfers and better ladies rather than the better men players. My combination of a good swing but a slowish swing means this was the perfect shaft for me at the moment.

I can see once I get a few more years under me I will need something different. I am only 26 and have only been playing seriously for 10 months
