I recently had new grips fitted to my clubs. While I was at it, I tried out a few other clubs (7 irons) and different (graphite) shafts - with some astonishing results:
1)
I achieved the best results - much to the surprise of the fitter - with my Ping G 15 (Standard steel shaft), which is more than 15 years old, closely followed by the absolutely gorgeous i530. The G 440, which is nominally better suited to me, and especially the G 730 “senior clubs” came in a (very) distant second.
2)
After hitting about 10-15 shots with all the clubs and shafts, I had considerable pain in my left forearm (“golfer's elbow”?). I had never experienced this with my steel-shafted clubs before! Since graphite shafts are supposed to prevent just this, I naturally wonder where the pain is coming from. Or is everything just different for me once again … ?

So I’d really appreciate any suggestions, why
1) the nominale better suited („senior“) irons didn‘t work for me (at all) and
2) where the pain did com from ? 🤷🏽

If you’re going to get tendinitis it has to start out of the blue at some point.
Mine started when I was overdoing upper body exercises, before I came back to golf.
It’s on and off for me; worse if I overdo golf or exercise.

Maybe you just overdid it on the day.

I play best with mid-weight stiff steel shafts but I believe they are currently inflicting a fair bit of pain on me so I’m trying to switch into lighter graphites.
Doesn’t surprise me if anyone doesn’t get on with Ping G7xx irons. They look more like ice hockey sticks than golf clubs.

This makes sense really. Doing a club fitting where you try several irons out is tantamount to a really long range session where you only hit mid-irons - when you're playing on the course you get long walks and chips & putts in between hits rather than pummelling 7 iron after 7 iron.

Don’t forget when trying new clubs most don’t suit you.
Any mishit shots with these clubs can affect you.
Off a mat is even worse.

I had graphite clubs and it was a disaster I just can’t feel the head.
The way you load the shaft is important and a lot of shafts won’t suit you.
So if you find one that suits you stick with that.

I bet you were hitting balls off a mat.

Re the graphite shafts - this will very much depend on how you load the shaft and the loss of distance could well because the flex of the shaft was too soft for you.

I played stiff graphite shafts for years with great success but never really had the same success with regular flex ones. I went to lightweight steel.

Yep, hitting balls off a mat indeed.

I got the impression that it‘s hard to go against a fitters biased opinion if
A) you are obviously older and
B) swing quite slowly (i7 at 62 mph) … !
