He finished joint 3rd and picks up £85,000 (£22k per day)

If he wasn't paid to be there that would be pretty cheap for the sponsors don't you think to have the most famous sportsman on the planet for 4 days solid (down to the wire) TV coverage.

If I has £500M in the bank I'd find 85K quite hard to get aout of bed for, let alone travel 1/2 the world to go earn it.

Is £85K too much/little for 3rd place?

But he was 'paid' to be there and he had that cash whether he finished 1st,3rd or tied 48th.

He gets the same cash as the rest who finished 3rd and rightly so but he was 'paid' handsomely to be there and again rightly so,money well spent by those who 'paid' him.

he's after the titles not the cash for the tournaments imo. The tournament had added buzz and draw with Tiger there, thats what the sponsors are paying for.

I think that someone like Tiger has so much money that a bit more or a bit less doesnt matter a jot to them

What is driving Tiger now is to prove that he still has a place at the top of the game and he has made a very good start.

Ive never been a woods fan and think that his "greater Than Thou" attitude with spectators is a shame, but you cannot deny that he is the most bankable golfer on the planet and with the likes of Rory coming up behind fast, he cannot hide behind past glories.

His desire to win has returned, I expect to see him creep back up those world rankings and I think that his return to form is good for the game.

As long as the TV companies realise that there are other golfers out there too, and woods lightens up a bit

Fragger

Prize money to a Player like Tiger Woods is Totally Irrelevant
More Money is made each year from Sponsorship Deals and off-course activities, than what is earned from Tournament Prize Money
Is He worth it..........???? U mean the Appearance Money he recieves......????
HELL YES , HE IS...........

Tiger is well past the stage of even thinking about the money surely?

He decided to play in a strong field in Abu Dhabi instead of either playing the PGA event or sit at home in Florida.

Was he worth it what he was paid? Probably. Tournament exposure was probably way higher stateside than it would have been had he not turned up. Having him still in contention coming down the stretch was a bonus aswell.

I think Tiger has changed slightly, he seems a lot more relaxed now yet still maintains his steely presence when over a shot

definitely worth having him there as you never know if or when he will pull off a shot that makes you go 'wow'

just look at the 45ft putt he sank today.... awesome

Sounds about right to me.

Tiger hasn't particularly worried about the money for 10 years or more.
It would be pretty hard to spend all that he has at the moment!
He's after Titles, Wins, Trophies.
If someone wants to pay him huge sums to go and try to win their Tournament then he's going to go, especially if its a biggish one that he hasn't won yet.....

Worth every penny paid.

He'll be pleased with the week but disappointed with today. He, and (almost!) everyone, expected better.

Tiger probably added a lot more to gate receipts and TV revenue than he cost, so in that sense he was worth it.

As far as the irrelevance of £85k to him is concerned, most of my experience of very wealthy people is that they always want as much more money as they can get their hands on and they will step on you to get to a fiver before you.

I thought it was interesting to see the stats that Tiger has more European Tour titles than Colin Montgomerie who topped the order of merit some 7yrs in a row.

Only Seve and Langer have more Euro wins than Tiger.

Yes, but as Tiger Woods was NEVER a Full european Tour member, he COULD NOT win the european order of merit title
Otherwise, he WOULD have won BOTH european tour and US Tour Money Lists, on MORE than one occasion, over the past few years, so theoretically Tiger Woods DID actually do this before Luke Donald did last year, but not officially as he wasnt a full member of the european tour

That'll be all his majors, WGC events and a few Dubai Desert Classics and Deutsche Bank wins thrown in to make up the numbers.

Don't forget that 30 of those European Titles are Majors or WGC events, most of which were played in the US.
Still obviously counting as Euro wins but Monty would have won more "run-of-the-mill" Euro comps.

Damn you Shaft - you beat me to it!

That's because of all The Majors (14) and WGC events (16) he's racked up along with any other co-sanctioned wins. So he's not won many 'normal' European Tour events ;)

I'm beginning to think he won a lot of majors and WGC events...................

Is that right that in money terms he would have topped both tours? What years Moogie?

no less than 7 times apparently

No one has ever finished No. 1 on both lists. But that is only because the tours do not include non-tour members on their money lists. If they did, Tiger Woods, who has never been a European Tour member, would have been No. 1 on both lists seven times, from 1999 to 2002 and 2005 to 2007.

To be a European Tour member, Woods would have had to play in 11 to 13 of the tour’s events each year. Woods played 8 to 10 a year in that period.

There is no doubting that he made this weeks tournament more interesting than it probably would have been or perhaps it is better to say he added to the interest level, but I'm still not for paying him, or anyone, £1m just to turn up. Thats x3 what Rock got for winning.

Its sets a precedent that other tournaments / sponsors can not be expected to live up to.
