So much for blades….

Maybe worth holding on to them till we get decent summer conditions, I thought I'd made a big error getting the 54's instead of the Ez's as it seemed like I'd lost at least a club of distance and wasn't striking them that well but now the weather is improving and warming up a little I'm back to what I class as proper yardages with them and my striking is improving now I'm not wearing 10 layers playing in a 30mph wind.

I'd concur with the view that 6I upwards the MBs are fine.... I've the 4 & 5 and at fit I asked pro about combi'ing APs for those two. He asked me what was my motivation for the MB and Mizuno's versus staying with cavities and I said I wanted the feel and the challenge... he said then well use the 4 & 5 to work on your swing to keep you focussed on improving.

I get similar distance at low 170 for 7I and 185 for 6I on KBS tour stiff and i see most effects on mishit on 5 and 4. If plane and AoA is wrong is when I get rotten hits. That was why I added 21H to bag to give me less stress on 190-210 yd shots without worry on lie and hitting 4/5I's. But I'm dropping it out now unless course dictates it.

James
Having only met u on Sunday, and played in same group, I've no idea how u previously played
But IMO you are defenitely 'good enough' to use those clubs
IMO you are defenitely a 'good enough' ball striker to use those clubs

But, I've no idea how they feel to you....??
I've no idea how they compare to your pings in terms of forgiveness either......??

I do know u told me they were new ( 2 months )
You weren't entirely happy with the ( high ) ball flight
But u also told us about starting lessons , so creating a new swing

So only u know if it's the irons you're not 100% happy/comfortable with.....??
Or if it's the swing changes.....??
Or BOTH.......??

You can most certainly play James
I'd keep the MB for time being
By all means use the old pings
Keep up the lessons
Then go back to the MB irons when u feel the swing changes are bedded in

I'm hoping this isn't a knee jerk reaction to Sundays round , as most had a few bad holes out there , whatever u decide , I hope it works for YOU:thup:
It was good to meet and play alongside u on Sunday and hopefully our paths cross again, if they do, I will be taking a peek in that bag;)

Good looking clubs but like all blades you need to hit the sweet spot to get the best out of them, I have not long moved away from using blades as the cavity back clubs make you bad shots better.

can I just point out that it is a lot easier to hit a modern MB/blade club than the old ones from the 80s,90s and early 2000s.

I agree with other comments, keep them, get the ap2 forged in your 6,5,4 irons they can bend them to keep the yardage gaps. The cost will smaller than a new set. Unless you just cannot hit your 7 iron up, then the S series won't help either :) you'll be better off with g series!

James what shafts did you have in your s57s I tried the px shafts before an hated them so stuck with the same shafts I had in the ap2

Stiff Ping AWT, pretty much the opposite of Project X shafts.

Think I'm going to heed the advise given on here. Jump back onto the Pings until the new swing has settled and then give the MB's another chance.
I'm set to be a lot busier over the coming month with work. Maybe not playing as much may help. 9 rounds over the last 2 weeks during lessons may have frazzled the old golfing mind

As some of you would have seen, I've only recently been fitted and i'm now gaming Titleist MB blades.
Well since getting them, my game has turned a corner….a wrong turn down a one way street at that. :mmm:

I have to accept defeat, although I'm a good ball striker. These things are so unforgiving I have slowly come to hate them. My S57's are going back into the bag and I've got a fitting booked at Ping to get the clubs I should have bought, either S55's or i25's, with the S55's being the 'right' choice.

If anyone fancies at 2month old 20 round set of Titleists in the spec below. Please get in touch, otherwise they are just going to get Part exchanged with my pro.

(Titleist MB 3-PW Project X 6.0 Shafts, 1/2" longer, titleist M80 golf pride grips, logo's down & 1/64" smaller grips) The shafts are £180 option upgrade.

Shame I've just forked out for the missus to go away to Spain for a week or I would have been very interested in them. Hope you get a good price when you trade them in.

Nope… these things are no good. :o
Played yesterday with the pings in the bag, played well and struck the ball better than any round in the last 2 months.
Chucked the Titleists back into the bag for todays round, utter guff. Distance loss is 2 odd clubs, struggling to hit the 7 iron more than 140yrds on the course. Off course, on a range, I can bounce it off to 160+yrds. So I must swing harder when on a range than on course.
Ping fitting booked. Eyeing up the i25's, but I'll let the fitters have open reign on club choice. Just need to remember not to swing like an axe murderer at the fitting.

I looked at the i25's- they look ridiculously easy to hit, def confidence inspiring

Oh well......I guess you just ain't good enough...... ;)

Just back from Ping.

They really are the boys to head to for custom fit. Paul Rymer, my fitter was spot on. 1000% better than the Titleist fitter, talked me through the shafts and what to expect and why he was giving me each shaft.

Tried the clubs I was wanting to hit. Picked the best on numbers and feel and couldn't be happier (Something I didn't get driving away from Titleist).
Can't wait to head back for woods in a few months now (Don't want to change the whole bag in one fell swoop)

Came away being fitted for:

Ping S55 3-PW CFS X
+1/2"
Green Dot
Aqua grips

The CFS shaft is a lot better than I expected, loads of feel but still can go after them to get that "extra" few yards.

Hopefully hash out a deal with the pro in the morning and get them ordered!

Exact same clubs and shafts as my pro.

Very nice
